Today, one year to the day I started taking prednisone I want to thank the wonderful people who have supported me on this unexpected and unwelcome journey.  💕🌷☕

Hi Anhaga, And thank you for all of your support and info to all of us.  It's invaluable.  It's almost 9 months for me, down to 5mg., have never had a flare, only side effects from the pred!  Stay healthy!   Elinor.

Bone doctor at a clinic I've attended the past couple of weeks said that at 5 mg and below effect on bones is minimal.  I hope she's right.

I am closely following all your comments about what you are learning from your clinic. I have osteopenia and I also can't tolerate dairy so I'm especially interested in what they advise about calcium supplements and types of exercise.

I was just reading about a recent study where they found that walking doesn't help too much but that lifting weights does. I was hopeful that walking would rate better as I do that the most. My PMR won't allow me to do weights.....yet!

thanks again for your helpful postings.

PS:  we recently returned from our first visit to the Maritimes. We thoroughly enjoyed visiting the provinces, learning about the history at many of the sights.....and of course eating the food!

Second session was actually a real letdown.  I actually have read that studies show prednisone affects the bones as low as 2.5, and possibly lower but it's not been studied lower than 2.5.  So I really don't believe anything this woman said.  I've posted my grumble in a couple of other places.  If I track it down I'll copy and paste here.

      Here it is

The rheumatolist does not recommend calcium supplements.  She does recommend vitamin D.  And, apparently, OP meds.  That was it.  She didn't seem cognizant of the fact there are two kinds of Vitamin K (neither was the dietitian) and was completely uninterested when I told her I had a very high Vitamin D reading and what should I do about that. Grumble.
