Just be diagnosed with fibromyalgia

Hiya. I'm new here. Just been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, didn't know what it was until I started to do some research and realised I've had the symptoms for quite a while and being overweight doctors put it down to that. Seen a new doctor and feel relief that someone is listening to me. The worst pain I get is in my neck and shoulders which is constantly there! But also elbow, hip, ankle and big toe! Has anyone been diagnosed then it's disappeared? Can anyone recommend treatment to ease it? Hubby saying "oh a good massage will do" however it's too painful for anyone to touch because he can't physically see what's wrong it's hard for him to understand. Trying to get a grip of things!

Hi Kerry. I too have the constant neck and back pain. I descibe the feeling as wearing a heavy back pack at all times. There are numerous medication cocktails that doctors can try to help find what's right for you.

Stress, illnesses, and certain foods can trigger symptoms. Minimize nightshade vegetables, sugar, caffeine and processed foods. And physical therapy, chiropractor adjustments, as well as, accupuncture can help. When they do a massage they put a numbing solution on my back so that they can work the muscles without me screaming

Don't worry you are not alone! People who don't have it don't understand it. We are here for you! Keep us posted.

    Hey Kerry

Having massages are painful and it's not for the faint heart but it's only a temp fix. I do not think I have every spoken to anyone who has said it's disappeared for me it's worsen. Excercise helps as long as your consistent. I'm just starting a new Med for infamation so we'll see if it works 🙂 One day at a time

The thing with Fibro is that most people (at least with me)...give me a look like there is nothing wrong with me.

I wish they would come out with a test that FOR SURE tells people they have fibro.

Mine was diagnosed after ruling out Lupus and RA.....

Massage really does help me.....but my mother does not like massage with her fibro she says it hurts too much.

Nice hubby thou...I would take him up on it.

Hi Misssy, I wish there was a test as well. It's all very new to us and it hard enough to get my head around it I'm sure hubby will catch up lol. Neck and shoulders are in too much pain to have massage yet but hopefully they will settle soon. Xx

Ice at night before bed helps me sometimes.

      The Gabapentin works..but I hate taking it all the time...its 300mg 3x a day.

What medication did they give you?

I had all your symptoms and Gabapentin & Melixicam Helped and unfortunately once fibromyalgia started to flare it never went away ; it's been six years now

Hi Claudia. What's gabapentin & Melixicam. Guess it's something we just going to have to get used too. I'm never ill the doctor think fibro was triggered off by a bout of neuralgia I had beginning of the year sad xx

I take the gabapentin it's supposed to help with nerve pain . the meloxicam is supposed to help with my arthritis ; together they take the edge off the pain but I haven't found anything that takes it away: I find the best medicine is reading novels that are engrossing so that I can be distracted

Hi Kerry . No massage makes me worse so I had to stop. Yes your right it is an invisible disease and people don't see how bad it is. As you walk around with a sign on your back saying I'm sick or I'm hurting lol . You know what I mean. So people are could in that way . I know it's hard but try to just ignore the rude comments people will say to you. From Snoopy

There's only a couple of people that I even bother telling when I have a bad day because most people don't really want to hear that you're not well they get tired of it real fast there's some sympathy when your first diagnosed but after awhile people just want you to get over it ; unfortunately fibromyalgia just doesn't go away

Yeah my doctor wanted me to go have a massage and I tried to explain to him that most days my skin even hurts with just somebody putting light pressure on it and it was no way I was going to let somebody massage me so unfortunately I have a doctor right now that doesn't really understand fibromyalgia
