Just been prescribed Mebeverine Hydrochloride

I have just been prescribed Mebeverine for suspected IBS. I have also had some blood tests to check for Coeliac Disease. Has anyone taken these tablets before? Just wondered what they're like. I know each person reacts differently but would like to hear other people's experiences. I should get the blood results back in a few days. Wonder why my Dr prescribed these before the test results come in? I'm not convinced that it's IBS.......I don't get diarrhoea, just an urgent need to go. Get a lot of pain in tum like it's red and inflammed, absolutely shattered all the time too. Is anyone else feeling like this?

    Hi Everyone

i have a hospital appoint ment tommorow after years off suffering the same symtoms as most off you,

wee question has anyone had there gaul bladder removed as i am now convinced that i have a blockage

of some type or a hernia after my surgery, i have a swelling above the original scar.

I have suffered this for 10 years and when i go tommorow the doctor is going to hate me because i am not going to be forced into thinking i have ibs because they dont have the time or the budget to look at me properly

My advise after years of this is to fight for your rights as a patient and dont let them fob you off because they cant find anything wrong with your bloods and this says to them that you are okay when you know yourself there is something wrong

sometimes in life the louder you shout the more you get.

Hi all , just been reading all your comments , try colpermin three times daily for ibs cramps ,, also please have a look at food combining diets ,,,,,,,,,,,,I can heR the collective groan ,,,,,, have a look at the hay diet , and Kathryn marsdens books on food combining , the system is easy , And if you are prepared to try it i hope you have as much success as i have had , , no cows milk , but you can have hard cheeses , yougurt , no coffee , no tea , sorry folks , a small price to pay for getting you stomach back to normal , throwing endless amounts of drugs to stop acid in the stomach and reduce spasms cant be good can it , try and get your tum and bowel doing what it should , it has a great capacity to heal itself , if you give it the right conditions , its surely worth a try . The regime is great , and helpfull for many other conditions as well as ibs etc

Im not saying throw away your, medication , but this may help you to reduce it or change to a less damaging form of medication

Hope you decide to check it out

    Best wishes to you all

    Helen

My IBS is now episodic thank goodness(!) but is brought on by stress, hormones, dairy and caffeine. I take mebeverine when it is flaring up (buscopan works really well too but makes my mouth dry). Immodium remains the tried and tested when the diarrhoea is a nuisance and the mebeverine is not enough (not that often now), I take the mebeverine or buscopan after taking immodium as that stops the immodium making me constipated. Brandy makes me feel better, but I have a nagging suspicion that it has no medical value!!!

Incidentally my IBS really settled down when I took stomach acid inhibitors for awful indigestion - ie my acid production is too high not too low, so I guess once again it is horse for courses.

I have had Diverticulitis for a number of years now and have been taking Mebeverine Hydrochloride 135mg 3 times a day since the onset. .

Lately my GP has just prescribed Mebeverine, they are not coated and are very bitter and they have started to give me an upset stomach bordering on cramps and diarrhoea.

I have stopped taking them but am worried if this change is to do with cost cutting by our Government and what I can do about it..

You need to ask GP to make sure he prescribes `enteric coated`mebeverine. I too noticed i preferred this. Hope you get these ok

Try Total Candida Defence, working for me after one week! Also as an IBS sufferer I decided to cut out Gluten from my diet (negative for coeliac) . Bread for me seemed the worst culprit for the bloating. Been taking a Total Candida Defence for a week now and my bloating isn't half as bad as it was also gas/wind as calmed lots. I shall continue with the Gluten free products & Total Candida Defence. I bought these from Amazon a friend recommended them and lots of positive reviews which is why I gave them a try smile

Hi, I have had IBS For 30 years. Tried so many things that people thought I was crazy to try them. Then I had an inspiration. I noticed I get better in the summer. Well what was different was i took the Blue packet of benerdryll  ACRIVASTIN . So I gave it go and to my amazement it sorted it out. I guess it's not a cure but who cares it does the trick. Pity it's the most expensive antihistamine drug out there but I found if I buy it in bulk it comes to half price

I have just discovered this site and so glad I have. There seems to be a lot of information about IBS but nothing seemed to fit in with my symptoms. I very rarely get diarrhoea or constipation but I do get crippled up with pain at times. It never goes completely and always comes back with a vengeance every couple of months. Interesting about coffee & I'll try doing away with it. Buscopan used to work but now don't do a lot to be honest. Peppermint tea before bed is good I've found. My pain mostly concentrates on my left side (lower abdoman) but when it's bad it goes right across my stomach and into my lower back. Exercise is helping a bit (walking). I have started eating healthy as I am over weight but lettuce absolutely cripples me, bread makes me very bloated. I don't know if anyone can understand this but when my pain is really bad (unbearable) my Wife cooks me a good old greasy fry up. As I'm eating it I can feel the pain disappearing. I'm not sure that what we know as "healthy eating" is all it's cracked up to be but I know I can't just eat greasy food but lean meats are a good help rather than salad. I have learnt that if I eat an onion I'm in big trouble but chillies are ok. Thank you for putting these posts on here because I was so worried that there was something drastically wrong. A friend of mine was told she had IBS but 2 years down the line it turns out as pancreatic cancer. She did have other signs though which fortunately I'm not showing.

I'm finding all of these discussions really helpful and want to throw some new ideas into the pot. For the last few weeks I have been in excrutiating pain with my IBS. Reading through sites on here I took away some ideas. What had I changed? A few weeks ago I decided that I wanted to lose a lot of weight so I started having a banana for breakfast. Could this be it? I have knocked off the banana and my symptoms calmed right down. I drank several coffees a day so decided to cut this down to 2 a day & my symptoms went down even further. Bread is much of a no no for me but I love it so I put up with the discomfort but I cut way down to almost 1/4 of what I normally have and yes, the symptoms have calmed down a bit more. I know Iceberg lettuce really does me in but I've been experimenting with other lettuce and the soft baby lettuce is fine. I don't know if this will work for everyone but I now have a tablespoon of coconut oil in my first coffee (no sugar) which I have just after 06.00hrs. I take a light salad to work which has plenty of Olive oil drizzled over it, and just before I go to bed I take a teaspoon of Cod Liver Oil. I certainly have a lot more energy and feel so alive and at 58 I'm happy about that. Other things I do are, I briskly walk 2-3 miles every night, have a large allotment which also keeps me fit and I have plenty of fresh vegetables. I am gradually knocking out fizzy drinks and all other sugary drinks. I'm drinking plenty of fresh water and Nettle tea. I also drink a glass of coconut water every night or a glass of pressed apple & ginger juice which has nothing added at all.

Whether any of this will work for other people I have no idea but the whole point is to put up ideas and if you can use something and it works it has to be a good thing.

    Good luck all,

    Steve

I have recently been prescribed mebeverine, and I feel like its helped me a little, I've been suffering with IBS like symptoms for 2 months, and having an urgency to go to the toilet with terrible cramps, especially when I'm in the car, its an awful situation to be in, I had blood tests for IBS and they came back normal, I was diagnosed with bowel overflow but I'm not convinced it is that, as they gave me fybogel sachets and they didn't work for me, they then thought my symptoms were anxiety induced, but I'm not entirely sure what is wrong with me, this has never happened before, and I am considering paying privatley to see a specialist. Hope this helps!
