Just diagnosed with herpes virus 1- transmission worries

I was just diagnosed today with herpes virus 1.

I was having reoccuring blisters that were itchy, i was told by 2 doctors it was thursh and another doctor that it was exzema. i started tearing during sex and went to get re tested..came back positive where as my previous test was negative...

i have been put on valaciclovir 500mg.

im just wondering the likely hood of me, being female and having the virus, passing it on to my partner who does not have the virus. I am doing the suppression therapy. But just wondering if the symptoms are the same with men or if they go unnoticed, and how much taking these tablets will help the likelyhood of me passing on this disease... thanks

First, how do you know your partner doesn't have it? Your partner could have given it to you. Unless he's specifically requested a herpes tests, he can jot be sure. Over 80% of people w herpes are asymptomatic.. Meaning they have no symptoms, but are spreading it. If you two were having sex w these symptoms and they're very new symptoms, being you tested negative the first time and positive the second, sounds like he passed it to you and had you passed it to him, he'd likely have symptoms by now. If he has not been tested for herpes and you've seen the test, as herpes tests are not included in the full std screen, you have to ask specifically for it, then he wouldn't know for sure.

Symptoms vary for individuals. Some have none. Some have it like yiu w itching and sores or just an itch here and there or a result bump mistake for razor burn.

Well I have only been with him a month and I have been having these same symptoms for over a year, where as my doctors have been saying it's just a rash or just exzema etc... It could have been him as we have had oral sex but my symptoms are the exact same as they have always been.. Where doctors look and have told me that they don't resemble herpes...

I have a question, with herpes sores whether it be hv1 or hv2

      Do they all burst/ scab?

And if they release liquid do you know about it? Just because mine have never done either of the above

They come up and get sore then within a few days disappear again with the help of a steroid cream that was given to me when they thought it was exzema...

Maybe I'm just not accepting what is,

But I'm trying to get all the facts and get my head together so that I can accept it and move forward

Also, it might sound like a stupid question

But if I have herpes virus 1

Do I transfer herpes virus 1 or 2? Just because it would be sexually transmitted since the herpes 1 sores are in the genitals..

Nope, they don't always. The fact that your symptoms are what they are and doctors can't figure it out by looking, sounds like you have very mild symptoms. Over 80% of people are asymptomatic, meaning no symptoms or so mild, they're mistaken for something else. Your body does a good job of surproessing the virus and hsv 1 is not as aggressive when it is on the genitals. Much more mild obs

Yes, yiu can transmit it both orally and yo the genitals. If someone already has it both places, no worries.

No such thing as a stupid question when you're trying to educate yourself. Don't worry about asking questions. smile

But would I be transferring hv1 ( the one tested positive to) or hv2?

If you didn't test positive for hsv 2, then yiu don't have it and can only transfer hsv 1. Hsv one can be transferred both places of not previously infected

Hi, what is your opinion on using hydrocortisone creams on the area to stop itching?

I googled it and the replies are all mixed

Also I think my outbreak is almost finished but I'm due for my period tomorrow

Is there anything I should be doing differently while on my period ?

I used hydrocortisone and my ob/GYN was fine w it. Soaking in Epsom salt baths will assist w the itching.. In fact, that was the only thing that took my itch away. Everyone is different, you may not have an ob on your period, but I seem to on my second or third day on it. I won't have any symptoms and it won't be on the outside. I'll know because it'll hurt to insert and remove tampons and I get a sore on the front inner wall of my vagina. Abstaining from caffeine, sugars, alcohol, lots of rest, lots of viatmin c may help you. I break out on the meds I take daily, but it doesn't hurt me.

Lafai :-) it will be okay. Just to clear up some misinformation you have been told by other posters, Yes it is possible to get hsv 1 genitally and in fact you are lucky this is what you got because it is milder than hsv 2. Secondly the 1% figure your doctor told you is correct on genial to genital hsv 1 tranmission. It is 1% a year assuming you have sex twice a week for a year, don't have sex during active breakouts and use condoms and take suppressive medication. So basically 1 in 1000 chance you will pass it on in a single session of sex. If you just use condoms and don't have sex during active breakouts then  it is 2%. Note that it is around 4 to 5% for hsv 2. So much more likely to pass on with hsv 2, and don't forget at least half the population have already been exposed to hsv1 virus so have immunity. If you keep healthy dont smoke your chances of passing on are low. I've had three partners since a previous boyfriend have it to me through oral sex and I have not passed it on to any of them and we've had lots of sex :-) also at times chooses not to use condoms but that was only after making sure we both knew each others sexual history.
