JUST HAD VIVITY LENS IMPLANTED 3 WEEKS

Hi,

I had Vivity implanted in my non-dominant eye 3 weeks ago. I have good distance vision as expected, I have good mid-range vision (to type on my Mac Air) but my near vision (to see my smartphone and read a book or textbooks) is blurry. I am disappointed. I have read that my near vision could still improve with time. I would love to know if anyone has heard this as well. As far as any halos at night, I don't notice them, but my cataract was so bad with such bad halos that anything would seem like an improvement. I also have a cataract in my dominant eye, so any slight halos I see could be due to that as well. I am noticing a slight waviness in my peripheral vision, but this could just be the natural healing process. At the one month mark, I have the appt with dialation where I will see how I'm healing. I hope I haven't wasted nearly $3k.

I really don't understand how my brother had multifocals implanted 10 years ago and he can see well without glasses at both near and far distances, but I get the latest technology and am stuck in readers.

I would love to have any feedback on anyone else's experiences. I contacted the FDA to see if I could get more long-term stats but they have not responded.

Hi Gayle, I had the Vivity lens implanted 2 weeks ago and I'm wondering how long it takes before you see results. My distance vision in my dominant eye is worse since surgery and I'm worried about how long it takes to see clearly again. My Doctor says the implant was successful. My non dominant left eye near vision improved greatly after surgery.

My vivity IOL lenses were implanted one month ago. I was told I would have good close, intermediate and far vision and I may need glasses for reading & close work.

My outcome is the opposite. I can read the smallest print that no one really needs to read

but from 5 feet & beyond is out of focus & I need glasses. I'm extremely disappointed since I was looking forward to sports activities without sweaty glasses(among other things). However...I'm not blind...good thing.

One of the issues that surgeons often do not want to talk about, is the problem of calculating the correct power of lens to use. From what you describe it sounds like your surgeon selected a power that left you too myopic, so you can see close, but not distance. The very best check you can do to determine the power accuracy of your cataract surgery is to get an eye exam which includes a refraction test. The one where they try different lenses and ask you which is better "A or B?". That tells you where you ended up relative to perfect plano vision. If the eyeglass prescription is a + number they left you far sighted. Or, if it is a significantly negative number (-0.25 is probably ideal), they have left you near sighted.

      .

One thing you might consider is correcting the distance vision in only your dominant eye. This can be done by doing a removal of the lens and the correct power lens put back in exchange to bring you to plano. Or, it could be done by having Lasik done to correct the vision to plano.

      .

From what you describe I would not do both eyes, but only the dominant one.

I am a new Vivity recipient, since two days ago. Right up to the day of my operation I flip flopped between a choice of a standard distance lens and a Vivity. I read all of the posts on several sites and there seemed to be so many potential problems and it was a hard decision. Reading the posts here helped, but there seemed to be so many bad experiences.

My surgeon knew that I was undecided, so on the day of surgery (Tuesday) he offered a standard lens and a Vivity and gave me a final choice before the op. I chose Vivity and he said that if it did not work out as I expected he would do a swap out for the distance lens within a few weeks. He is the head of eye surgery at a large hospital here, so I had a lot of confidence in his abilities. I wanted the best chance for good close vision because I spend a lot of time on tablets and screens, so I decided Vivity.

The evening after the implant my pupil was too dilated to be much use and bright lights were a large halo blur. While being driven to the follow up appointment the next morning (Wednesday) I could not read road signs, number plates or much else, which was a bit of a worry. In the appointment I could read small print on a card up close, but everything else was blurry at any distance. He said it had been less than a day and to give it a few days and let my enlarged pupil size diminish, but my being able to read very fine print up close was an encouraging sign.

On the morning two days after surgery (Thursday) my pupil is almost back to normal and I can read number plates at a distance and my mobile phone and tablet are very clear at about 8 inches from my face. I worked on my computer and typed this post on a tablet held close without needing glasses for either task. Very happy so far.

However, I did see a bright straight line running across my vision from 2 to 8 on the clock when I looked at a bright street light last night. I have read various reports that this may go away over time, or not, and it can be a result of a toric lens, or fold, or whatever. It will be excellent if it disappears, otherwise I will live with it because I seldom drive at night and it is not an issue in a lighted area. It is still very early in my healing, so I am hoping that it resolves when my pupil and eye return to normal, but if it doesn't it will be something I will leave for a year to see if time is a solution.

So, that is my experience in the first few days after implant. The Vivity lens looks to be very promising and my near to far vision is sharper each day. I have good functional vision at all distances after two days, with occasional slight blur because my eye is still settling. I do not know if the bright line off street lights will disappear over time, but on balance I am still happy with my choice of a Vivity.

I hope that this info adds to the knowledge base here and helps others making their decision.

Thanks so much for sharing. Looking forward to hearing how it works out once you're had more time to heal. I've been struggling with this too but I'm 99% sure I'm going to just go with a Monofocal myself (Eyhance). If I have to wear progressives day to day I'm ok with that. I'm a perfectionist so I want the best possible image quality and good night vision for camping etc. Eyhance offers that but with a LITTLE bit of extended range. So we'll see.

lm in the same position you were in trying to decide between vivity or monofocal distance. So would you say you are pleased with your choice of vivity, are you happy with the contrast level, does it seem dim on low light days

Update: the long bright streak from 2 to 8 o'clock position that I mentioned in my previous post has resolved itself. After another night of recovery for my eye I checked bright street lights before dawn and the streak is either entirely gone on the brightest lights or is a very short thin line that does not radiate far on smaller distant lights. Happy day.

That is a good thing as it could be a wrinkle in the capsule holding the IOL.

I had Vivity IOL lenses put in during my cataract surgery two months ago. I am very disappointed. I had a healthy eye other than the cataract. I went to a top surgeon at the top facility. I now have double vision in all three zones. And I never got the distance vision you are supposed to. I feel that the Vivity lens brochure and patient information lens was not honest!

Is it the fault of the lens or the fault of the surgeon perhaps dont implanting it correctly, did you ask the surgeon why ?

I had the same reaction after vivity was implanted in my right eye. Excellent distance, but worse near vision. Now it is time to correct the left eye, and I am leery of spending that much money again to have no reading vision improvement in that eye either. While I didn't expect perfect near vision, I did want to see some improvement, so I wouldn't HAVE to have a pair of reading glasses in every room to read smaller print like books , bottle labels or newspapers. I don't understand why some of the ads for vivity list having good vision at all distances as a benefit ,when I feel my near vision is worse.

Did you have both eyes set for distance or plano or did you have minimonvision where one eye is set slighlty for near which may give some reading vision

I had my cataract surgery on my right eye done one month ago and now notice shadows or darkness on the right side in my peripheral vision. The doctor has now said that its because my natural lense was 12mm and the new Vivity implanted lense is 6mm . The doctor said I will get used to it in time but I am very disappointed as it bothers me alot. I am considering not getting my second eye done because of that vision loss in my peripheral vision. Has anyone else had this problem or any feedback on this. thank you

I too thought my near vision would be where I could read my phone, menus, etc. I am really disappointed in my lens as I have glasses everywhere and have to carry them. My far vision is good but I really didn't have much of a problem before cataract surgery anyway. The colors are more vivid but when I was talking about getting the lens implanted (mine cost $5,000), I told my doctor I didn't want to have to wear glasses again. I also have problems in a room with overhead light that my vision is very blurry. When I went back for my check-up, I told him my concerns and he said "it may take up to 6 months". I'm very skeptical but we will wait and see. Also he did tell me to get some readers. I truly disappointed that I paid what I did to have to still wear glasses.

Are you able to get your brother's details regarding the IOLs that he had and share here?
