Hi All,
Totally new to this, never having being prescribed any long term medication before, so please be patient with me.
I've been suffering anxiety/stress for the last 6 months or so, came to a head last week, world was crashing around me, im sure you have all probably been there in some form.
Anyway, went to my Doctors today and have been prescribed Citalopram 20mg,
I came home and googled it, and bingo found this forum, after reading all the side effects im loathed to commit to going down this road!!
Any advice or just general feedback, would be greatly appreciated,
thanks
Kenny

Hi Kenny,
Welcome to our family. I could not of done it without the support of the fabulous people here. My suggestion is you make a journal as it was a roller coaster ride for me. At times I felt great and then I was not good. The journal helped me looking back. I started on 10mg then went to 5mg due to the side effects then back to 10mg. Ask your Dr. about starting at 5 or 10.
I started FEB 24, 2018. I'm doing well at 10mg now and have my life back. I suffered from anxiety and panic attacks. It was awful.
Please keep us posted of how you are progressing.
Will

Hi Will,
Thanks for your post, everyone has been really supportive and the feedback has been great.
My counsellor advised me to keep a diary, which i have mostly been doing, note to self to keep it going!
Agreed about starting on a lower dose, the doctor i seen yesterday just wanted to give me meds and get rid of me, no explanation of what she was precribing and possible side effects etc. but now reading and hearing from everyone on here, it certainly sounds like 20mg seems too much.
Will keep you posted, like it?
Thanks
Kenny

Hey Kenny,
I totally agree with you on Dr's just looking at us as numbers and dollars. Your plan sounds great. I know myself and many others take the med in the morning. Cut out caffeine and cut down on sugar. I wasn't able to go to gym so i would walk with headphones with my favorite music or a podcast. It helped me alot with the anxiety. You will be fine.....
