Just venting

I’m 38 and I have stage 3 CKD. I figured I would be married by now or at least have a child. I had a miscarriage 14 years ago and now I find out that having a child of my own isn’t an option anymore. I don’t have a problem with adopting, seeing as I’m adopted myself. It’s just the thought of not being able to carry my own. Thanks for listening.

I will just share what i know, I knew some with CKD 4 who got pregnant and got a baby boy, but it was a premature birth. But his son had no more issues other that low wight at birth. Mom later died when her son is in age 17. can you believe? good luck, its always better to be positive.
BTW, i am in the same stage as you, and 44 age. God bless you!
Thanks,
CS

I’m back on the positive train now. I just needed to vent and get that out. I do talk to family but sometimes they can’t relate. Thanks and God bless you too.

Although a mere guy, and not well versed in the intricacies of plumbing, I now have only 1 kidney and am on the edge of stage 4. From my experience I did not feel any different throughout the stage 3 years, and kept fit by exercise and diet. If you are very careful with weight, exercise, food intake, steering away from carbs, sugar, and having less protein and more veg you can get improvements in kidney function. So maybe all is not lost! You sound like a nice person so somewhere there will be a man to match! Never give in! And do talk through these things if you can - the problem shared/problem halved is very true, and not all docs are expert in everything kidney related!
Good luck on all fronts,
KenR

I’ve started changing my diet and I meet with a dietician next week. My biggest part is going to be exercising for me. My energy seems to drain so fast now. But I know I can do it. Thanks again

you have sparked off more good advice replies than anyone I can remember on the forum! So, lots of people on your side! Exercise does not have to be of the gym/workout type. Walking is now though of as very effective. Seemingly 3 10 minute brisk walks do as much good as an hour in the gym more or less. So just do what is possible. The right diet will help but at first when you take a lot less carbs and sugar then you do have tiredness till your body adjusts, but a few weeks and that improves. Look our especially for sugars and carbs in ready meals as it can go unnoticed. I think you may well surprise yourself, as you seem open to making the changes!
Best wishes,
KenR

Exercising is key for me too. I just started really small-- 2 or 3 5 minute walks a day. I was surprised at how quickly I was able to build up to 2 20-minute walks a day. About 4 months later I was walking 4 mikes a day. So just start small. And I found it really helpful to record my exercise daily so I could see my progress🐶

Are carbs bad for you when you have CKD?
I never knew that.
Are Carbs bad with diabetes as well?

John, Rick,
Crystal is a diabetic so she has to watch her carbs and sugar so they don't harm her kidneys. High numbers aren't good.

others have beaten me to a reply pointing out that carb and sugar management is very important. With diabetes it is critical to avoid further kidney damage. Otherwise if you are to any degree overweight then manage calory intake by controlling sugar and carbs which are the major contributors to body fat!

You have the right idea and walking is great! I think too many people think of exercise as hours in the gym. Possibly fine for younger people but not as you get older. I bet you notice the benefits from walking!

Yes, in fact with walking and diet I'm able to control my Type II diabetes without medication. My A1C comes in at 4.9 so the walking has been a major part of my treatment plan. I haven't taken medication for my diabetes for over 6 years now. I'm hoping Ceystal will have similar results.
