Kidney pain relief after lasering and stent pain
Posted , 46 users are following.
Hello. I just wanted to tell of my own experience. After laser procedure for kidney stone removal I found that this time I was in a lot of pain. The hospital gave me morphine and paracetamol but that didn't even touch the agony I was in. They then suggested Voltarol suppositories. (Diclofenac Sodium) not oral tablets. OMG did that work wonders. Just thought I would flag this up as I was in so much pain. Would like others to know that really helped me. Did anyone else find a good pain reliever??

Hello there, I'm so sorry to hear that you are going through all this. All I can say is that I've had different experiences each time! Sometimes there was no pain at all, but other times the removal restarted my colic pains. I had to use a Voltarol suppository after one time. But I found it helped to cough as it's being pulled out. It relaxes the muscles at time of extraction! Hope that helps. It's unpleasant but not awful and a few times it was hardly noticeable at all! Good luck. Keep us posted. Hugs.
Angie.

Thank God I read these posts but only after 5 weeks of sever pain,! I still have a stent in and constant infections. I have begged the hospital for an emergency appointment to remove stent due to the excruciating pain and discomfort but no joy. After reading these posts I went to my gp and asked for voltarol supopostries and oh my God. So much relief. What I can't understand is why dont the hospital gives these at the time. I have went through so much pain and had no life for 5 weeks and after reading this post I am only left with discomfort. Thanks so much to everyone on this page xx

Hi all I see a lot of things I wish I saw sooner... I have a stone 7mm my fist one 2 years ago was 5mm I was rushed to the er at work and rushed to surgery the next morning cause I couldn't breath and such on morphine and pain pills it did nothing. They put in a stent after surgery last time that I peed and pulled out on my own at home... My problem this time is I have had the surgery to remove my tube from my kidney to my ureter is kinked they couldn't get it out I have had a stent in for 7 days they haven't even called to schedule surgery and might not for another 9 more days I am so bummed. I booked a Kalahari visit for my sons bday a month ago its in 4 days and his sleep over party is before that on Saturday 2 days away. They only gave me Tylenol #3 20 at that. I am breastfeeding so this is horrible all together. I see you are all talking about voltarol and diclofenac are these the same I am interested I am in so much pain. My kidney and tubes are swollen I feel like I cant be but have to all the time. I have to have surgery again, my question also has this happened to any of they couldn't get up there to get it what happened? will they have to cut my open I am so scared and sad I have to have a stent put in again and do surgery for a 3rd time. sorry for all of you who have to go through this pain.

Just to keep this thread going so new users can see what others go through with these stents. I have a pea sized stone stuck half way down ureter. I was having very dull pain for about a year on side off and on with blood maybe few times a month if at all. Went to one urologist who was pretty much worthless. Kept doing just ultrasounds and each time i'd go back for follow ups each ultrasound showed something different. I do have a stone..i don't..i do. This went on for almost a year till one day i said screw this and went to another urologist. Right away first visit he ordered a CT scan. Bam, pea sized stone stuck. He immediately ordered for stent placement after great explanation of what's going on since other doc was worthless. He was pretty upset about the other doc not doing anything either and never ordering a CT since he said ultrasounds don't show a stone very well if at all if it's already down in ureter. So with all the info in hand my new urologist said he wants to put in a stent for 3 weeks to dilate ureter so he can more easily work to remove stone using laser and basket. I agreed cause over a year with this I just wanted this to end so I wouldn't wind up with random blood peeing and back and side discomfort that never ended. Went in for the procedure, was given a sheet of whats to be expected after stent placement. Apparently the doc told me too after surgery but i was still under anesthesia in recovery so I don't remember but wife got all the info. Went home, peed..and blood of course. No pain yet. 2 and 3rd time peeing i started to get dragon's breath fire, acid, razor blade p*****g. And while urinating i'd get pain that would shoot up stent. This went on for a few hours and it started to subside. I was only given phenazopyridine and i had totally forgotten about it. I took it and it helped quite a bit. By end of day i was urinating more normal, just a little blood but still had that pain that would shoot up stent. I had a ton of vacation saved up at work so I just took the week off to get used to it. Sleeping was uncomfortable the first 3 days. I slept on sofa in reclined position with pillows behind me. Sofa is lower so easy for me to get up and use bathroom as opposed to bed which was way to soft and very high. The more I moved the ore the sent would irritate and bleed a bit. I didn't sleep much those 3 days cause i was peeing a lot for all the water i was drinking. I had small blood clots come out at times during those initial 3-4 days. Pain off and on that would go up stent. That subsided after 6-7 days. I had follow up after 7 days with urologist so he could tell me what's next and what he saw during stent placement. He said stone lodged and wants to leave my stent in for 2 more week so he can do laser then and my ureter will be more dilated. Right now I hardly feel the stent, I'm sleeping in bed now with pillow between legs if I'm on my side. All i reported to urologist is irritation in bladder from end of stent rubbing up on it when I squat or do other things. He gave me samples of Myrbetriq 25mg and said that should help. Took it that evening and it does help for the spasms but not if your moving around a lot and that stent end is actually rubbing and irritating. Going to try it for a few days. To add...for some reason pain doesn't really seem to hit me. I had already passed 2 stones. One i never saw but 2nd I did...3mm. I didn't know I had it..just an odd back discomfort. Went to bathroom and bloop. I fished it out and took it in to be analyzed...that's when I went to first urologist cause now I know I had stones and probably where my blood in urine was coming from off and on. Shame doctor sucked though. Anyway, after my stent placement, I was't given any pain meds and only real pain I had was that initial few hours of p*****g fire and razor blades. Maybe pain doesn't really register for me...I don't know.
I just wanted to share what I went through so far. In 2 weeks, I'll have stone lasered and doc said depending how much inflammation of ureter there is after procedure he'll remove at that time too since it'll be nice and dilated too. If there's too much inflammation he'll remove stent in office after a week.

Just going through my second stone trauma six years after the first one. Looks like most of you are from the US, here in the UK they deal with stones differently.
My first stone that put me in hospital was a 9mm beauty, but here they don’t deal with the stone straight away, they just stent you this stays in for at least 6 weeks, My stent was in for over 6 MONTHS before they would laser the stone and then new stent while debris clears.
So now I have a 10mm stone, stent was put in Wednesday, so I have at least 6 weeks of all the pain and blood and sleepless nights all over again, hopefully they will not leave it as long this time

Yes Paul I am also from the UK and I agree they seem to just stent you and leave you as long as they are able to! Or can fit you in. I’ve had two 9mm stuck one hiding behind the other and the last one was smaller but caused a blockage which rapidly lead to “urosepsis infection”; so I was kept in on antibiotics until the sepsis had cleared.
It’s made me realise how serious kidney stones can be! I didn’t even know I had sepsis but I was throwing up a lot and my skin went very flushed looking, especially on my chest and face. Luckily they caught it early. Well done NHS for this time.
I really do feel for anyone going through the pains of stones and stenting. It really is absolutely horrendous.
😱
At least it can be sorted with medical intervention. I still have about 10 stones in each kidney (embedded in the meat I’m told) and I’m praying they don’t move or cause me any future problems. 😰
