    Hi Beryl

I used a knee brace quite frequently before my TKR in August. Have you spoken with your surgeon or doctor? That would be my first step in your situation. Maybe there is something going on that should not be happening.

    Good luck!

I have had great luck with acupuncture for all types of pain; leg, knee, back, neck, and migraines.

no beryl ive never used a brace but i would use one if i thought i had no pain ,a pain specialist is pretty much telling you go away ive done my job if you have pain then go to someone else .surgeons never admit that maybe the tkr went wrong .im so sorry you still have pain ,i know how you feel as i was in your position and to a point i still have pain ,but not as much as i did before the revision a year ago ,ive resigned myself to having a certain amount of pain . the only worry i might have about a brace is that it might make the leg weaker !! as im not sure about the type of brace your using i would make sure your also strenghtening the leg

Check with therapist and surgeon. I have always been advised against any form of brace as they have a tendency to actually weaken tissue by doing the work of the muscles. A Dr. Might have some form of brace that would be acceptable that h e could recommend.

Is it pain due to stiffness? My advice and I had similar problem and went for scan everything looked fine but still in pain, went back to medication until it seemed to settle and then weaned off it slowly until pain became discomfort. On a scale of 1-10 is it no better than it was post - op or is it just that you are overdoing it or expecting too much - for quite a few of us it has taken up to a year to be pain free and more. I am 9 months now and still not quite there but a lot stronger and my physio (ever the optimist) said it could even be 3 years! I have noticed that when i added strengthening exercises to the mobility ones and the stretches, I had some pain (took painkillers) but as my muscles got stronger my pain got a lot less. Be patient - listen to your body - if you think something is really wrong get a scan. Dont use a knee brace - you can do this - keep up the good work x

I do all the strengthening exercises ok, pain never goes away only when asleep. During the day lump comes up on front of my knee and presses on my shin bone so by putting on elasticated support stops the swelling and it is much easier to walk. have done it today and have been out quite sometime and been very good. Thanks for your support perhaps i am being to hasty

If you want to get around quicker, or walk a little longer, the brace is a good idea.  Sometimes wearing around the house for a few hours is also a good idea as it will give you release from the pain.  Go with what you feel comfortable with, but remember, walk as properly as possible, even do your exercises wearing it
