My husband had a new knee 10 weeks ago.

if you use cushions you should be able to kneel down but he has not tried that yet,!

yes i have tryed that one but if you get down on the floor you can not get yourself up with out help has your husband found this

Val, another thought I just had is that perhaps it is lack of muscle strength that could cause difficulty in getting back up?

He has only had one knee done next one end of this year.  He can for now use his good leg to get up.

i have had both my knees done and they damage my nerves my feet hurt all the time and swollen

I've had both knees replaced and was told not to kneel.  I don't even like to kneel on my bed ... it feels wierd.  If I have to get on the floor, I flip over on my feet and hands to get up.  I look really odd, but it avoids kneeling on the floor!

Though I have not had my knees replaced, because of nerve damage affecting my knee after hip replacement I can't get down on the floor easily  ( to play with grandchildren). If I do, I do the same as you to get up !

how do you flip over to your  feet and hands to get up

I don't actually 'flip'.  But I couldn't think of a good way to explain it.  If I'm seated on the floor, I 'roll'? over so I'm on my feet, not my knees, and my hands, and work my hands and feet closer together until I can bend my knees enough to stand up.  Does that make sense?

How awful for you, we don't know how lucky we are when we are young and fit. I no longer take life for granted I count my  blessings and  look  at  how  lucky  I am when  I look  at  other  people  worse  than  me.  I fell twice about 4 weeks after replacement nerve damage caused my leg to give way. First time got out of Bath and fell on floor. I cried and thought what has the surgeon done to me. Then composed myself and slowly turned myself round and used the bath to get up. Second time a week or two later holding my grandson 8 months old just literally leg wobbled and I fell back on the floor. Luckily baby fell on me as  I held him tight. After that for several months wore a leg brace which was brilliant  gave me the co fide nice to walk outside until my strength built up. If I knock my leg it wobbles a bit but usually manage to stay upright but gets a bit scary.

Me too, with my two THR's I get up in a funny way.  Partly I think, because I am out of shape and need to build more strength in all of my muscles.  Mostly I just avoid kneeling down and while I will miss gardening, my granddaughters, whom I raise, can bend and kneel for me!  The thought of becoming totally stuck on the ground with no one to help me up frightens me.

Femoral nerve damage causes the leg to wobble. I read that there is no reflex in the knee and doctors should test for signs of nerve damage. My surgeon or nerve  specialist did not test it. But I have and still  no reflex after all this time.

Sorry that happened Val.  Pretty scary and frustrating.  I have not had a knee replacement, but instead knee surgery where they drilled into my cartiledge in five different places to create micro fractures that stimulate my own cartiledge to grow to heal the torn places.

However, I think I could be of support for you in that if you have had a fall, it would be vital to see your doctor as soon as possible to report this and have your knee examined just in case the knee caused you to fall to begin with, and /or, the leg and prosethesis has been damaged by the fall.

I have known many who have had knee replacements, and I will need one soon also, however, I have never heard that one cannot ever kneel again.

    Wish you the best!

I have had 3 knee replacements, my 11 yr old knee broke so had to re replace it.

i try not to get on floor but if I really have to then I make sure there is a soft pad nearby because I totally can't get back up without getting on my hands and knees first. It is not comfortable but I was never told not to do it.. I would not kneel because it  hurts! At church they bring communion to me at my seat. Also made my garden all in raised beds to eliniminate kneeling . And we got a walk in tub so I can have a bath and not have to struggle to get up.

Do not know if this helps, but I wish you the best in recovering and not falling!
