Hi all,

I am a 48 male that had a total knee replacement on right knee 8 days ago. I can not lift my right leg, very limited rom, very painful at night, always very stiff. I went to see doctor he said there is a lot of fluid in knee but looks good. Told me to rest and elevate knee. I have a lot of old scar tissue in this knee as well. Everyone says it will get better. Can't sleep can't walk can't do anything without pain. Anyone else with same problems

Tom, try addiing Ibuprofen.  It is a good compliment to the 2 you are taking.

I have asked the doc about ibuprofen have not heard back. I think that would get the swelling out. So I hope to hear from him by Monday

Tom, I agree with other's it's very early and it's normal , I am 72 had my opp on 29/03/16 and I am very near back to normal.

As for sleeping the advise I can give you is sleep on the floor, I did it and no pain.

I have posted several time's about the way to go about it, look for it and do it .

    Regards and get well soon

    Fred.

Hi tom i think most tkrs  have the same problem after the op sounds like most have the same pain sleepless nights you get all sorts of weird pains during the healing time use all the pain meds ice packs and stick in there took me about a month and still having pain at 11 months but still improving

Your only 8 days in.  U have a way to go depending on your body type. Everyone heals differently. I can only say,... Ask ask ask questions from staff to doctor to get your answers. I'm 9 weeks in n know I got a ways to go. Unfortunately I'm finding lots of  doctors or staff really don't explain the full extent this surgery takes toll on one's body. Hang in there, u r not alone! 🍀

Hey Tom, yes you have a way to go but for me things started getting better after about 8 days. I was done with my walker after 11 days, then went to a cane until about 30 days after surgery, the last 10 of those days the cane was only for stairs.I'm just over 5 weeks since surgery, took my first bike ride today. My biggest problem was my surgeon put me on 6 days of a steroid treatment for inflamation which gave me terrible anxiety and poor sleep for about 8 days.Hang in there! Things will get better.

Thanks for the response. I feel like this can be the turning point as today stayed on meds and pain is somewhat better. I feel my set backs are my doing as I am not a fan of pain meds, and when you start chasing pain you can't win. So that slows down doing everything. I also should of insisted I stay in the hospital for an extra day but to late now. I hope to be off walker by mid week at I start pt Wednesday. This because of my set backs.

      Thanks for your encouragement

Hello. I am 52. I damaged my knee when i was 37. My doctor said it was a football injury. Right. All these years later i got a surgery date on July 27. Just hoping i am making the right choice.

Now might be the time to get a second opinion.  I assume you  have had x-rays and maybe MRI as "evidence" that knee replacement is the right solution.  These surgeries can be daunting, even when prepared.  Keep in touch with us on this site.

I woke up about an hour ago missed a does of pain meds now playing catch up again. Ice ice ice. It is amazing that pain can be this intense from just missing a dose. Very stiff, thigh is very painful now maybe from sleeping with leg elavated. Meds just make me sleepy
