knee support post surgery

I am 5 months post R-TKR Has anyone used a knee support? When I go climbing or any lengthy extended exercise. My knee is angry the next day. Wondering if support during climbing/hiking may help.

If so what do you recommend ?

Hope to hear

Thanks in advance

    Hi,

wow, climbing at only 5 months!! your superman!. Does your doctor know about it? I'm not sure if you should be doing that so early...your nerves and mussels are still healing! ICE is our best friend😊

You will have hurt your soft tissues. I'm finally seeing a physiotherapist round the corner from my home. My opera, TKR, was 5 months ago. I hugely overdid things, walking distances, etc between 8 and 12 weeks from the operation. The physiotherapist told me 3 days ago, after a thorough examination, that my soft tissue is now in the same state as if I was only 6 weeks from surgery. I'm now having interferential therapy and he said I should not go to the Zumba Gold (low impact) class that I was hoping to join. I made the mistake of thinking I was ready for my "normal" activities after 12 weeks. Not so.

Well I was thinking this morn I am back to where I was a few months ago. I am worried. I will just take it easy. At 74 yrs .Even if the brain doesn't realize it, my body and knee especially are not so strong and resilliant.

      Thanks

Gillian Thanks for the encouragement. I saw a persons post once that said, sarcastically, about himself " My whole life revolves around my knee"Isn't it the truth!

We all join the ODIC (overdid it club) at some point. I have more than once and felt like kicking myself afterwards, but with a bit

of TLC you'll be fine. You'd think we'd be more sensible as we get older, but we aren't because inside we're still 18!

Thanks Linda , it is difficult to slow down. So many adventures left I hope.

Definitely there are still plenty of adventures ahead. I'm forever going on about my favourite saying: 'Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain'. Sometimes we might have to change the type of adventure, but there's always something new out there to enjoy.

It's still early.. your knee is still healing.Maybe lessen how much you are doing a bit. It really is still less than half way there.. Two years is the total healing time, I think.... don't quote me on it but sure I read that somewhere!

Wishing you all the best with your recovery.

Accept help and be kind to yourself!

    Best wishes, Jenny
