kneeling

hello all, I am almost 8 weeks tkr and despite a slow start I have had a fairly smooth recovery so far, however I am totally unable to even attempt to kneel on my new knee,we heat our house with a wood burner which involves a fair bit of kneeling to set/clean and put fuel on.At the moment it is not a problem but come autumn time it will be. Do any of you have any advice? are you able to kneel down and if so how on earth do you get back to standing? the logistics of it defeat me !

    Hi Sleepylu

Many many people have this operation and many do not suffer too many problems past the initial few weeks.  Unfortunately, they are not likely to be on this forum.  You will have good and bad days, but Please don't consider not having it done...it will be worth it in the long run.

My surgeon was one who said I could do anything at all on my new knee. I actually haven't tried kneeling yet but what I did before the surgery with 2 bad knees was to use a gardener's seat. In one direction it's a seat but if you reverse it, it becomes a kneeling platform with the legs pointing up on each side. You can use them then to push yourself up with your arms. Works very well until you overdo it and strain your arms smile

I do like the idea and I can see how it will work on wooden flooring, but do you think it will work on carpet ?

Yes, just pick up and put it wherever you want it to be. It will work on any flat surface.
