Labial fusion separation surgery in 2 weeks, help!

Best of luck Brigitte, hope you'll find someone. It comes down to the doctor, check with a few gyneacologists there. I'd check with plastic surgeons I heard they more readily do this and there are lot of them nowadays who specialize in the genital area. Just make sure they understand the disease too. I know some gynos are so ignorant about this and don't bother recommending or even considering surgery to ease discomfort from fusions. This group has been a godsend x

Hello, I am almost recovered now and I can say the recovery wasn't too bad. My surgery was done in Circle Bath Hospital and my surgeon was Dr Aisha Qureshi. She was the first doctor who realised how uncomfortable I was with the fusion and truly empowered me to overcome my fear of surgery and do something about it. I can highly recommend her. My private health insurance luckily covered the surgery which included labial separation to address the fusion over my clitoris, biopsy to comfirm LS and a Fentons procedure as I had a little fusion near my perineum too. My doctor is currently on annual leave but you can make an appointment for January via her secretary. Best of luck and any questions let me know.

VERO- Glad to hear that the surgery went well and you are recovering nicely. My surgery was NOV 1, I just had my 6 week follow up and am all healed. MY hubby and I resumed relations and it was much better. The Dr. said to reduce CLOB to 2x week and she's see me in 6 weeks. Cost after insurance with co- pays, etc. with anesthesia was about $3200. It was worth it!

Hi! Thank you so so much for sharing!! Apparently I won't have stitches, they will split and remove some of the skin that covers my clitoris (which long ago was part of my inner labia). I will also have to use clob after to prevent it from refusing. How was the pain initially? Was it awful to go to the toilet? I dont even remember what having a normal clitoris feels like as I had this since childhood. Did you have this surgery in the UK?

So you will be left with raw skin that must heal on its own? That sounds painful, but one would hope they will offer something for the initial healing stages. I guess if babies are expected to deal with circumcision women are expected to deal with this procedure. I certainly wish you as little discomfort as possible.

VERO- I am in HOUSTON, TX in the United States. They split the skin that covered my clitoris, removed a piece of it, and put dissolvable stitches over each of the cut ends. I apply CLOBETOSOL 1x a day and just use my moisturizer. I stopped the PREMARIN because it caused swelling of my vulva. I think it's because I am not menopausal and had plenty of ESTROGEN already and it was too much. The constipation was still bad 10 days post- op from the anesthesia, so you may want to have Miralax and prunes on hand! I guess I am really sensitive to it.

ps going potty was fine, I drink lots of water so my pee is not very acidic, and just blot with cotton tissue. I did not use any of the opiods they prescribed me, just ibuprofen. And I am wearing dresses, no trousers so nothing touches/ presses on the area.

It seems like I will have the exact same op! I am a bit worried how it will feel after as I dont have anything to compare it so, I only know how it feels now. I was little when it fused. Scared my clitoris won't have any coverage and it will be super sensitive! but I try and look at it like a blessing, so many people are not offered this surgery.

I have had other surgeries before when they put me to sleep (wisdom teeth) and I didn't experience constipation, hopefully it will be ok now too. How soon were you able to go back to work? Thank you so so much for taking the time to write to me, you have no idea how much it helps xx

I know Beverly, this is what makes me scared..but hopefully the doc knows what she is doing, I am not the first case she has seen. She did say there will be raw areas but she'll give me cream to put on. I hope it won't swell too much...but I'm more worried about my clitoris to be over sensitive at first...ahh just want it to be Christmas, hopefully by then it will be just a bad memory. I think circumcision is a bit easier to recover from as a penis is not squished between your thighs. Anyway I just have to suck it up and be brave! You ladies give me strength

Hi Vero- I had rhe surgery on a FRIDAY do I would hv FRI- SAT- SUN to rest. I ended up raking MON/ TUES as well due to the constipation. I am a therapist and wax able to push my clients off to WED- THURS- FRI. So I was back to work 5 days later. GOOD LUCK and stay in touch. I'll let you know how my follow- up goes this FRIDAY and if my clit feels any better after it heals.... I want my awesome sex life back!

Hi Janie- Dr VAYAS is the one who did my surgery. I brought her DR Goldman's article on surgery for clitoral phimosis and she agreed it was a good idea. It has pictures and explainations of the entire procedure. She has done it 6 times before, 5 were successful, 6th was not because the patient continued to smoke and robbed her tissues of precious blood and oxygen for healing. It is so important not to lie to your DR! You can ask her about it, I find her very knowledgable.

That doesn't sound too bad Karen! Hopefully me not getting stitches won't make it worse or more difficult to heal. I am sure sex will feel better for you, just give it enough time to heal. Let me know how it goes and I will check in too after my surgery is done. x

just wanted to check in see how you are now that everything recovered? You were right, the surgery and recovery wasn't bad at all, I barely needed painkillers and nothing too strong. It's been over 3 weeks now and the skin is healing nicely. So nice not to feel that binding sensation over my clitoris anymore. Let me know if everything is back to normal know. x

hello just chiming in here! glad to know your surgery went well. im considering the same procedure you got! just had a consult with a plastic surgeon today. my gynecologist would never do this surgery so im curious if yours did or if it was a plastic surgeon? im in california so have to figure out a way to make it medically necessary so i can get some of it covered! this plastic surgeon has done tons of vaginal surgeries but only a couple with LS, so im not sure. im also curious about having to take clobetasol as i hate it so much. i also have lyme so steroids are not recommended.

Hi! it was my gyneacologist who did the procedure, she is very knowledgeable about this disease. I also saw a plastic surgeon a few years back and I already suspected at the time I had LS. He did not recognize the skin disease but wanted to reconstruct the area. I did a little research and learned that it's important for the LS to be in remission before surgery and that the proper aftercare is implemented to avoid refusion. I did not trust he was the right person for it at the time because of his lack of knowledge about LS and I'm glad I waited. My surgery was about 40 minutes, my doctor removed the fused tissue from above my clitoris, did a fentons procedure around my perineum as I had a small fusion there too and did a biopsy to confirm everything. I think the main thing is the aftercare, a plastic surgeon could have done a good job too, but you need to make sure to keep the area separate and apply a steroid cream for a few weeks until it heals. I don't take anything internally, just apply the cream. I am doing it every other week now, and will change to 2 days a week in a couple of weeks, then once a week, then just stick to coconut/olive oil to keep things moist and unable to stick. I am happy with the outcome so far. If you have any other questions just let me know and best of luck with your procedure. x
