LASTING LIPITOR SIDE-AFFECTS FOR 4 YEARS

Four years ago my doctor finally nagged me into doing a statin.  Within two weeks I was having near-feinting spells, so I stopped taking it.  A blood test showed "an enzyme had been stripped from my muscles".  Additionally I noticed I didn't have any more stamina in my knees/legs, and I did have much more pain and weakness.  Over the next couple of years I had various kinds of physical therapy for the apparent weakness/pain in my knees/legs:  water therapy, physical therapy/message, cranial-sacral, acupunture, cortisone shot, more water therapy, weight lifting.... nothing helped.  There has been  NO IMPROVEMENT in the strength, stamina, or painfullness in my knees.  I took Ubiquinol also.  I have seen Orthopedics doctors including one specialist who told me my knees were NOT bone on bone and didn't need to be replaced.  He had nothing to offer.  The doctor who did my hysterectomy mentioned that her father had had the same reaction to Lipitor as I had.  I don't know what more I can do....

Margaret I think you did the right thing by stopping them...so many health folk have told me that when you stop the statins...you go back to normal...but I haven't found that so....I was taking different statins over a period of years ...to begin with I was fine...then my muscles started to ache and were weak...I couldn't hold a book to read...and I had difficulty walking upstairs....I felt as if I had no thigh muscles...I was tired all the time...everything I did was an effort....GP sent me for blood tests...when I went back for the results ...he said I was fine ...nothing wrong ....so  from that day on...which was about 6 years ago...I never took another statin...and I told him I never ever would.....but I can't walk far my muscles are still weak and sore...so I think that statins cause so much damage over the years.that it's iriversable....I tried ubiquinol too...I read so many good things about it ...but it made no difference....

This morning ..just after reading your letter...I was scrolling through the news...and they're saying that (ALL OLD PEOPLE SHOULD BE GIVEN STATINS)....that's one way of getting rid of us..

I know some docs want it in our water systems, according to medical docs they are a cure all for everything, then why does almost everyone i know end up going off of them. They are money makers for doctors and big pharma!

I only wish i knew what i know about them now, they have ben around for years,my mom took various ones for years and had horrible back pain, also ended up with alzheimers, makes me wonder??

My neighbour opposite was on them for about a month but couldn't do her hobby of dancing anymore so came off them. I don't know if women suffer more or not.  I read some article that they are useless in women anyway.  When I look back it was all a waste of time testing cholesterol and going on those pills and the scaring it does regarding food and plaque inside us. I'd of been better not knowing.  When I worried less about food mine was lower like you eating better it's gone up.  My husband does no exercise eats similar and has low cholesterol it's mad.  It's a worry for older people who don't put two and two together and listen to their GP.

well, aren't we just SPECIAL!!!  I was just mentioning that I have been able to lower my cholesterol count just by avoiding butter, bacon and sausage and chicken skin and all fat I can find on meats.  I eat a nice steak once in a while as a treat, but mostly I try to eat buffalo or flank steak or poultry/fish.  Having watched America Ninja Warrior, one of the stories behind one of their contestants told about a wife who had a serious debilitating disease that was expected to kill her.  Through her husbands good results in the Warrior competition they decided to go completely healthy organic and try REALLY HARD with massage and physical therapy.  That woman was in a wheelchair, now she is walking and exercising alongside her husband.  I was 'disabled' by herniated discs and bulging discs in my back and still managed to have a pretty active life and get lots of cool things done in the last 30 years....  so if I can do that with my back, by GOLLY, I WILL FIND A WAY TO OVERCOME THIS SITUATION, TOO!!!!

I was on Lipitor for 3 months before I started to get severe muscle pain to the point where I cound not lift my arms.  I stopped on my own and started taking a supplement coctail that I found off the internet (Coq10, d-ribose, acytel carnatine, B complex, and magnesium.   I felt better right away, but not completely better....i have been off of Lipitor for 6 months...and still not 100% normal.  But I count my blessings that I feel about 97%.  However, as soon as I try to stop the vitamin supplements....the pain starts to creep back.  Who knows how long I have to keep taking the supplements?  I've read that it could take up to a year to recover, if ever!   I will never take another statin again...pure poison!

I think the thiamin, magnesium, and b vitamins helped me the most, plus physical therapy.

Margaret, basically, I did a lot of internet research....searching for "statin muscle damage" or "recovering from statin muscle damage."  I would list the links here, but everytime I do, the webmaster of this site deletes them.   They may delete this, but try searching for "Dr. Sinatra statin recovery" as an example.  The vitamin cocktail really DOES work.  How much it will work for you, no one knows...but, it is not harmful and well worth the try!  Besides the supplements I mentioned, I also take D3 and vitamin E,

best way to go Lee - doing a lot of research is obviously time consuming but it's the only way one can find out what really helps - doctors wont give you info on vitamin supplements, it's not cost effective for them.  Like you, I did oodles of online reading and found some truly helpful information.  One thing I did find was that with vitamins especially - it's important to read up thoroughly on what dosages are both effective but also safe to take.  Some vitamins, vitamin B for example, the body flushes out what it doesnt need so it's not particularly dangerous to overdose but others, I think Vit A is one of them, its very important not to take more than the body can cope with.  I insisted my doctor test my Vitamin D levels and apparently they are just fine, so I dont need to spend money on supplementing that one.

      Hi Mark,

      Many thanks

Hi Margaret - I'm so sorry to read of the damage done to you - and after only two weeks on that poison. I was on full dosage for two years and like other responders here had docs absolutely denying what was happening. I won't list all the ailments, but write to extend my empathy and wishing you all the very best for the future.

I started Ator. But gave me muscle and other issue so self stopped them. The only had two simvastain pills for it to start up again and having stopped those immediately I am still getting muscle aches increasing in my foot and knee. Dr. wants to give me rosuvastatin as it's safer but expensive but I'm not sure I want these.

i have read that vitamin D doses helps to restore things. anyone experience of that. May help OP.
