Left Side Throat Issues for 4 Months

Hiya smile

I'll do my best to keep this short while providing as much detail as possible to ensure people can accurately assist me or chip in with their similar experiences.

Anyway! I have an issue with my throat where it feels as though there's something stuck about an inch around to the left hand side of the centre of my Adams apple. The issue has always been here, doesn't move and doesn't really go away.

The best I can describe the issue is that it feels as though I've got a constant build of phlegm sitting on top of a scratch. By this I mean that during the day I can feel phlegm in this area and doing a throat clear produces phlegm and alleviates the "fullness" feeling but sometimes I feel a sharp scratching, tingling feeling in the area where the phlegm is/was.

I have this feeling all day, every day and have had it for about 4 months. It's the same today as it was when I randomly woke up with it 4 months ago. I generally feel fine when I wake up and the issue starts within 5 mins of me sitting up in bed. It's not "globus" before anyone says it, this is a VERY specific areas with very specific, none generalised feelings.

I've had 2 separate, private ENTs do 2 scopes down my throat along with 2 doctors who have done some general checks and tests and I've also had an ultrasound, results are:

ENT 1: Said all looked fine, could be related to my tonsil removal I had 5 years or so ago even though my feeling now is about 3 inches below my tonsils. He gave this verdict after both cameras and reviewing the (clear) ultrasound results. He advised I could try PPIs as acid reflux could be agitating my throat. I tried them for a few months, nothing changed.

ENT 2: Said that he saw the mucus/phlegm sitting at the base of my tongue, exactly where my feeling is, he said that some lower tonsils seemed a little inflamed and said I should use some antiseptic throat spray which I used for about a month and nothing changed.

Doc 1: Said that it sounds a lot like Post Nasal Drip and advised I try antihistamines for a while to see if they help...They didn't.

Doc 2: Said that it's all very odd but could be congestion and said after examining my ears that all looked a little inflamed and asked me if I sometimes get a fullness feeling in my ears/head which I do. They did a throat swab to check for a viral infection and told me to try using some steroid nasal spray, this was only a few days ago so still using the spray and waiting for the results.

I’ll add that I have no real pain beyond the occasional scratching feeling/tingling and have no issues breathing or swallowing.

I know this is a long post but I'm getting desperate here as no one seems to know what's wrong! Anyone got any input?

Thanks

Ive had similar issues for almost 2 years! Towards end of the day my voice box feels dry and irritated. I've had endoscopy last year. Waiting to see ent

Yikes! And I thought my isse had lingered for too long!

I'm surprised they sent you for an Endoscopy for something in your throat though...Unless they believed it to be being caused by acid or somethign further down your easophegus.

I too am left with a dry and irritated throat by the end of the day...mainly due to me always trying to clear the phlegm! I have tried NOT clearin the phlegm for a few days but then I'm stuck with the fulness feeling as it all just continues to collect there on the left!

I'm so surprised that NONE of the 4 cameras (laryngoscopes) operated by the 2 ENTs revealed anything in me though..even a scratch, swelling or anything! All one saw was a bit of mucus and apparently a slightly inflamed lower tonsil (Lingual tonsils I think they are). I guess my issue COULD still be an irritated lingual tonsil, same for you, but what are the odds they would remain this way and cause these issues for months/years eh

Endoscopy / biopsy was to rule out anything serious I guess. Several blood test and barium swallow xray in 2016. It started as a sore throat feeling and food went down slow. Now just dry throat and voice box area. The air is also crappy here in Porterville,ca. And i smoke, but cut way back to a pack every 4 days

I also get the phlem feeling at times. And it will go away all 2gether for a few days. My recent blood test doc said stop worrying its nothing bad

Very odd! Could be air pollution issue near you then? I think the convern I have with mine is that I can pin point exactly where my issue is, it never moves, it never feels any different. But the cameras revealed nothing.

Guess I shouldn't worry as cameras should have spotted something but the lack of anything being spotted has worried me just as much! Ha.

Defo not air related with me, I live in the middle of nowhere countrside in the UK and don't smoke.

Have to let me know what your ENT says when you get booked in smile

Does your throat also feel dry? Mine gets really dry at time. Gives me anxiety

No, it doens't at all. Sometimes feels a bit burny by the end of the day...but probably due to me using various nasal and throat sprays more than anything.

Yeah, I've got HA also, doesn't help when I have issues like this which are undiagnosable and refuse to shift!

Sure! Will do, thanks smile Yeah, I'm sure with you, if yours was serious, you'd have become worse or died by now!!

But...please do let me know how you go! I'm going to keep using my nasal spray, have my results back next week from a throat swab the docs did to check for infection and they asked me to book back in next month also

So I went back to my ENT who did another Laryngoscope and again he found nothing.

This time he advised I get another type of camera down my throat which is sort of like a shorted, thicker endoscope which allows them to get a proper look inside my voice box area. They also have to put you to sleep to do it.

I've agreed to it ATM but the appointment is 4 weeks from now, I'd rather not have it if possible but I've no idea what else to do other than keep waiting, keep trying NOT to clear my throat and hope it goes!

Just a question do you have anxiety.? if every test comes back normal... get a second opinion, Also it could be sinus,?   My sore throat  went away as soonest i stop the aleve.. it was my first time taking aleve,....an my last one. is a rare adverse reaction but it happens...

I do yes, not the kind that cripples my everyday life but I just overthink and overworry about actual problems. This throat thing for example, my anxiety has me worrying it's seruous, but I've not had a metldown about it, just really focussing on getting to the bottom of it in attempt to find the issue quickly in case it is serious.

Hmmmm...could sinus issues cause a specific fulness/phlegm feeling in in my mid throat?

I've had 4 opinions now as I say sad I can only keep pestering docs to do more and more tests

Ent looked down throat. Said my voice box looked a little irritated. Antibiotics 3 weeks. My anxiety gets bad to. Especially if I smoke weed. Thats only about a joint every couple weeks. Sometimes i get mucas feeling in throat. Doc thinks it is ok

Hiya! Really glad to hear your scope came back clean and the ENT didn’t find anything!! smile I think we both have the same issue which is caused by silent reflux (acid) as I have had 2 more scopes (1 was with yet another different ENT) and they both came back clean too. The final one said my vocal cord area had some inflammation on it which he said could be caused by my acid issues which is why he told me to carry on with PPIs.
