I've never heard of them but I have to admit that after my 1st surgery (posterior approach), getting in bed was probably the most difficult and painful thing I'd do for several months so it sounds like there might be some value in it.

(My 2nd was an anterior approach and it really hasn't been an issue).

I bought a leg lifter from Amazon for my husband but in the end he didn't use it. The hospital PT told him to turn the crutch upside down and use that to hook his foot. He found that easier than the leg lifter.

BTW i found it was a lot cheaper to get the stuff he needed (a hip kit, a commode for over the toilet) from Amazon. As an example our local medical supply store had the exact same commode that I ordered. From Amazon it was just over $25 and the store price was $99.

Good  luck with your surgery and recovery

I found it very unuseful and expensive. I could have used tongs or something else to complete the job or my kids 😊 It couldn't put my stockings on and by the time I didn't need those anymore, I didn't need any other assistance. Waist of money

I have never even heard of a leg lifter. I like the idea of using a crutch, turned the wrong way around. I also have a yoga strap that I could use, after forming a loop on the one end. You guys are so helpful!

I did buy a leg lifter, but find MUCH more useful is to use a cane, getting my foot in the handle of the cane and using the stem of the cane to lift my leg to where I want it. Also, A LIFESAVER is to place a large, loose garbage bag on the bed, right where my butt will go as I sit down, and with arm action too, i can easily swivel my body around on the bed before using the cane to lift my long, "wooden" leg up and where i want it on the bed. try it!

I didn't have a leg lifter other than my hands. However, even now (almost five months later), I'd sometimes like to just hire a new leg. If you find an aid that works for you, go for it...

I didn't have one, but wish I had something, hubby had to help me get into bed for two weeks. In the hospital, I used my good leg to lift my bad one by putting my good foot under the bad one to lift it and got told not to by the nurse because the restrictions included the good one as well. I never got one off the nhs though.
