I panic I had no physio did my post op exercises but no other physio I worry I'm not doing enough ! Does anyone else's get theses aches . It's a deep ache nothing like pre op sharp pain ! Got to me tonight on my walk felt tearful again grr thought I was over all this now . See occupational health Fri re phased return to work and am starting to panic . Maybe I'm just a wuss

Definitely pain in the but. ( what I had and not what I am) and some thigh pain, they went though a pretty big muscle and it takes time to heal still get a pain (ache) just above my knee at 6 months but the but pain has more or less gone

    Hi Denise

As you know we are at about the same stage of healing. I think I know what you mean about this ache. I was on my feet all day on Monday and was really tired by the end of the day. Went to bed early but couldn't sleep as there was a deep ache in my thigh. Took some paracetamol( first time in ages) and managed to get to sleep. Rested yesterday and thigh much better but a bit swollen. I think it's the same old story about overdoing things.

Do hope you feel better soon. Make sure occupational health know things aren't 100%yet so you have a very gentle phased return..

    Very best wishes.

Hi , I'm the same at moment, 10 weeks and feel stiffer in hip now than earlier and also have butt ache and picky pain in thigh. It's so frustrating as feel going backwards, hoping to try swimming to see if that strengthens leg and reduce muscle ache.

Sounds like you are over doing it. As your doc fot sone hydrotherapy. Or even go yourself to the lical hydrotherapy pool and walk in the warm water. Very soothing. Im hoping i get clearence for that on mon at my 6 week check up

    Hi Denise

Sounds to me like you might be over doing it a little. You are still in early stages of healing.

If you really want to go to physio get your GP to get you an appointment with them.

Experiencing the same thigh ache. I remember reading something that said the femur will eventually grow and attach to the stem that was put in. So I've been wandering if that is what we're feeling. Has anyone ever read that before? I'm going to ask my dr at next appt. Its not really painful, it just aches and feels wierd.

If you have a uncemented hip, the implant is slightly porous and the bone does eventually grow through

Hi. I'm 7 weeks post op and awake at 3.00am with exactly what you describe (I think). Walking absolutely normally and X-ray absolutely fine. But I had quite a tiring Physio session on Tuesday and wondering if I overdid it. Also doing a lot of chores in the house so that may be it. I'm sure it's to do with muscle/tissue healing. It's a huge operation remember. And I was told by consultant that my bone would grow onto the titanium "stick" of the prosthesis over time. So perhaps we've all got "growing pains"! Perhaps keep up with a couple of pain killers now and again? And rest a bit more when you can......

      Hi ann

Interesting you should mention bone graft. Not all are done like that. And alot don't know that you shouldn't take any anti inflammatory drugs as it stops the bone graft. I was told this at my pre op appt. I had to stop anti inflammitories a week before hand. By the sound if it i think you over did things

Definitely not a wuss. It can take months for all your muscles to recover. Your pelvis will be in a different position and you must give yourself time and not push too hard.

Have a couple of easy days and pamper yourself. I have been back at work full time for 5 weeks and I ache like crazy at the end if the day. But it is getting easier. So chin up. Take a look at yourself and see how far you have come in 9 weeks

    Take care

Yer I still get it at 6 months! It is mostly at the end of a day, I still do exercises and find that they help.

It is one thing to talk about with your OH when you go and see them re the phased return. They may be able to recommend that you stretch/rest for a few minutes periodically, and if they write such instructions down everyone will know where you are. Additionally I was able to persuade my OH to send me for extra physio

Interesting and reassuring to read all the responses here. I suspect we all tend to expect too much of ourselves too soon. Thanks everyone.

I am so happy to read this thread and all the replies.  6 weeks tomorrow I had my op.  Un-cemented.  If I do a little too much I do get pain in my bum cheek and top thigh area then I think I have done some damage to the new hip.  After reading here it's sounds like I just over do it a bit.  I have to do most things mysef as I live alone, my daughters do anything I want but I am my own worst enemy as I am so independent.  I do know my limitations and ask them if I am stuck but I am always in trouble with them for doing things that I guess could wait a few more weeks.  So thank you to all that have posted seems we are all the same x
