I had the same at 8 weeks, very frustrating but I went back to work that week with a phased return and forgot about it! Mind over matter! Hope it works for you too.

There's a lot in that. I get so engrossed at work that I tend to forget my aches

Hi all,  I am new to your discussion,  I am 4 1/2 weeks out of left total hip replacement.  I am 53 and was very active prior to this surgery.  Early 2013 I had arthroscopic labrum repair/femur reduction. Was great for 2 years, Early 2015 mri showed 2 new labrum tears same hip again (non cement, less invasive no cutting of muscle) although I had very little cartlidge damage I was on the cusp.  I am new to this surgery and grateful for all the info i am seeing on this forum which makes me believe I am overdoing (because im anxious to move on), need to stop that.  But what I am not new to is the same pain  in the butt area (especially when I tighten the glutes) and also the pain I have when I lift my leg toward my chest (or even bending down toward my leg) I get tremendous pain.  This pain is exactly the same as the prior to both surgeries.  It almost feels like impingment in the groin area.  Dr. said to me prior to surgery that it is probably tendonitis of the hip flexor and when my glutes, hamstrings and quads regain strength this should subside.  My problem is that any type of exercise that I do that involves pulling on that muscle, tendon or what not, exacerbates that pain (which feels like impingment) and then it hurts to gait when I walk. Anyone else have this weakness in the upper thigh or hip flexor?  Anyone get a true diagnosis for it?? Hard to tell if its impingment or soft tissue problems.

    Thank you...

I am not exactly sure I have understood your

movements, but are you obeying the90 degree

rule at all times. When you bend down do you

keep your operated leg straight behind you - the

      golfer's bend.

non cemented hips take longer to 'knit in'

show a professional the painful movements.

      good luck

Thank you Cathie for your response!  But just to add, when I left the hospital, the surgeon released me with NO limitations (except for pain), but with the type of THR I had, there was nothing I could not due, except the obvious things like run or play tennis.  I will definitely be asking more questions at my 8 week checkup.  The nagging butt and groin issue is driving my bonkers.  I guess no chance in stopping the Aleve at this point as the more I do PT and strengthening exercises the more sore I get.

I just saw my Dr for my 6 week followup, I had a lateral approach. and he told me I really need to start massaging my incision to start breaking up the scar tissue. He said if the scar tissue gets bad it can cause all sort or issues. So maybe that could be the cause of some of your pain. Since I've been massage and working the knots out, my leg and butt are feeling better.

Maybe that's not your problem, just a suggestion.

hi carla .... you know what, it makes sense - my problem is that I now have a scar on each side and they feel so sensitive - I am not comfortable doing a deep massage - one scar is 7 months, the other 8 weeks -

      thank you darling-

hope you are doing well in your recovery

      warm hug

Just to add to the note re massaging the scar.

I am using arnica cream to massage mine.

last time I had a lovely, one line scar but this time

let me just say I didn't get a masterpiece!

Renee, mine is too 😩 But both the Dr and physical therapist said I can't hurt it now. I'm six weeks out. They both said it will hurt A LOT but I have to start now to keep it from building up. Once scar tissue gets hard and deep it will be much more difficult to take care of then doing it now. And I actually know a guy who had to have more surgery to try and remove scar tissue. It was his shoulder. But I would rather hurt a little now and get a handle on it then have deep seeded scar tissue later. Start out slow with a little pressure right on and down the sides of the scar and gradually increase the pressure each time. I've been doing it for 4 days, 5 to 8 times a day and it's getting a lot easier. Actually feeling better. 😀

Thanks Carla, my PT did start with ultrasound on my incision, to help with any scar tissue.  I see my Dr next week.  I still have issues with the inner groin area. Trying to stay positive and realize it will be 3-6 months before I am actually good to go!! wink

18 months ago when I discovered this site

it was frequently posted that insurance companies

allowed 12 weeks recovery. I now notice that

people are going back to work much earlier.

Have the rules changed? Or is everyone going

back to work earlier now. How long does NHS

    say for recovery.

By the way is anyone else having to 'sign in'

on the site twice a day?

Think it depends what you do, I went back at 4 on phased return, if your GP/Consultant say your fit then your fit they arevrhe experts not the insurance company and I was always the normal was 6 never 12.

And yes I am having to sign in every single time even when I tick the keep me signed in box, have actually been thinking of leaving the site because of it and often don't reps for same reason

I know what you mean, you think is it worth the effort.

In truth there is usually something you share which

      so useful to another hippie.

let's see if the same thing is happening to other

people, then perhaps the moderator will pick up on it.

Regarding 'back to work' times I wonder where companies

get their guidelines from. I don't suppose it makes any

difference once you have accepted their rules.

i can't tell you personally.. Long retired..
