Lichen Planus for 16 years

Hi I have been suffering from Lichen Planus for last 16 years. I have tried everything over these past 16 years including natural remedies and doctor prescribed (turmeric, various steroid creams - the current one i have been prescribed has 0.1% betamethasone, coconut oil, balms); however, it has only gotten worse. I have visited doctors, dermatologists, skin specialists, dieticians, nutrionists, and natural remedy health practitioners with no avail. If anyone else has experienced a similar outcome and has found a remedy please do let me know. I have completely turned my diet around over the past 16 years, although I have always been health conscious and eat a lot of veges and avoid sugar and processed foods, I have taken this one step further by ensuring I am consuming all sorts of green veges, fruits, good fats (such as avocados), supplements and drinking lots of water and have been exercising 3-4 times  a week all my life.

I have heard this from other paients I have had olp for about a year now. Let me ask you with all thechanges you have made does it seem to be any better or do yo have less flareups? I'm in the process of changing many things as well but, it doesn't seem like there is any miracle cure I know of. Wish you the best my fellow L P friend!! I'm so tired of the pain I can't imagine what you have been through! 😮

After years of suffering OLP and like you trying advice from every professional who had any knowledge of the condition, i found on you tube an item where an american doctor suggested trying Purslane capsules.  I bought these on line and after 4 months of taking one capsule daily I can honestly say the outbreaks of OLP dont last as long.  Of course this could be a conincidence however I would give them a try.

hi Natma13, sorry to hear about your suffering, i m the new sufferer of lichen planus.. i have been reading many things on this subject from last 10 days... many times i read people suffering say 10 years..20 years from LP..i want to ask you that suffering for 16 years means continuously you had active LP or symptoms are on and off.. if that is the case what is the period of remission...

I have suffered from erosive OLP for the past 3 years, and other than oral prednisone, nothing seemed to help me until recently I tried a mouthwash with Cetylpyridinium chloride.  There are seveal brands on the market, but choose one without alcohol, as it is less irritating.  It has helped me more than the steroid-dexamethasone mouthwash.  Although not a cure by any means, it has really helped if I use it religiously 2 times a day.  When I stop or forget, it flares up again badly.  This may just be coincidence, or maybe it kills whatever germs my immune system keeps attacking.  I have been surprised at how well it works.  Hope it helps someone here as nothing else seems to help.

I've had oral lichen planus for only a few months now but  In retrospect, I feel I've had it for about two years but it was not painful before so I never really paid attention. I suppose I was in a bit of denial. I had an oral surgeon do a biopsy on my tongue to rule out oral cancer and I have never been the same since.  My biopsy took over t months to heal but the pain has never gone away since then. Now I have flair ups constantly. The pain resinates through my tongue into my ear as if I had an ear infection.

Anyway, have any of you found that certain foods make it worse, other than the obvious spicy and citric foods?  I'm going to start isolating different foods to see what my triggers  are.
