It is confusing but I think LP is more severe skin disease  than LS. LS is supposedly white dots whereas LP is supposedly Grey patches. Both can involve the genitalia and perineum but believe LP can affect a number of areas of the body whilst LS usually isolated to the genitalia and perineum. I believe the treatment for LP is more heavy also  and frequent whereas  treatment for LS is with potent steroids usually weaned down and controlled well. Both are long term disease that will require specialist and ongoing reviews and advice. Hopefully one day there will be a cure is only management so far, hope helps, find someone who knows the condition well, this is a skin disease good luck.

thank you so much for your reply Sarah,I have had L S for a number of years now & checked out every 4 moths at Gyny clinic, since July I have had to go back every 2 weeks as it flared up really badly,my consultant prescribed Aveeno moisturizer & body wash for me to use,it did not agree with me & made the flare up worse,so instead of a couple of times  week using Dermovate I have had to use it twice a day,it seems to be settling down again now,if it is still sore when I go back on Thursday they are going to book me. In for another biopsy,it is no where near as sore as it was a month ago & the itch was unbearable

Edwina, Dermovate does work gradulayy, so it's quite good that you're so much better in a month.

I've used Aveeno on my non-genital skin for decades, but it has too many sketchy ingredients to use on flared LS vulva. The doctor is right, thought, that you need lots of moisturizing as well as Dermovate (not at the same time). Lots of us here use coconut oil, which has the consistency of shortening. It's really helpful to have an oily barrier to urine.

If you haven't already seen this one-hour presentation on treating LS, you might watch it. There's a lot we can do to improve the effectiveness of what the doctor tells us to do.

My specialist treating LS with Diprosone OV Ointment stops itch straight away. Clears up dots. Over top of Diprosone use Dermeze moisturiser twice day made in Australia can buy online. For redness of skin also use advantan ointment. For internal soreness use Vagifem pessaries (oestrogen) am in menopause, find Vagifem magic.  You need a good mirror positioned well and you need to continually check areas daily to watch for any changes to skin.  You also need to know which areas of the skin to apply any steroid too as pointless applying to any skin not affected by LS and this is where your specialist should be physically showing you all the areas you need to treat, if your not sure ask it is their job.  It is not a very flattering condition and can be devastating in relationships, I don't believe that it is as rare as some say in fact online there are many support groups to help those with it, it's not that rare. Many use Clob you really have to try and see what works for you, the most important thing is a good specialist and a good management plan.

Thank you Sarah, for your very informative reply,a lot of the ladies on here are seeing a dermatolicist,I myself am seeing a gynacolist I don't know if that makes a difference, for this last flare up which was made worse by using Aveeno wash & moisturiser I have gone back to Dermol 500 to wash & shower with,Dermovate cream,& Insillacel for the itch,it has started to settle down now, but. The itch has been horrendous, never know it this bad in 8 years since I started with it,Can you buy the Emu oil & coconut oil over the counter at the chemist,as you will try anything as you become so desperate with this itch, thank you again for your reply, have a lovely day Edwina x x

Emu and Coconut oil can be purchased at most leading pharmacies and online including eBay if you don't have time to go out to shop, I find online shopping great and often cheaper.  Diprosone OV Ointment stops itch immediately but it is only available on prescription as is steroid which can thin the skin if used too much or too heavy.  There are online links or Dermeze Moisturiser also. Shower washes try Dermaveen or Cephaphil non soap products with moisturiser which are dermatological ly tested.  It is good to use natural products when able but often natural non prescriptive products are not enough to help with flare ups, skin disease need effective management.  Diprosone OV Ointment NOT cream is widely prescribed for many LS sufferers with effective results for itch.

They are different skin problems. Lichen Planus is a disorder of the outer surface of the skin (dermis) and Lichen Sclerosus a disorder of the inner surface of the skin (dermis). For those who are scientific minded, they are actually different molecular disfunctions.
