Life after p&a repair and perenium repair

Hi ladies,

Just felt I should update you all. I had my surgery end of November. I know everyone is different but for me, now, this surgery has been amazing. I would honestly recommend it to anyone.

Now, don't all think I've sailed through this as I haven't! I've had water infection, intense pain, spent about 8 weeks walking like I had a poker up my bum! I also had a week around say 4 weeks post op when I wished I'd never had the surgery. I constantly worried in the early days that I was going to prolapse again too. Had a 'lump' at the entrance which has now gone, was TERRIFIED of my first bm. And sex!... Read my earlier posts... I cried! Worried I was putting on weight through lack of excercise...All the worries you read on here, I had them!

There is however hope after all this! I'm now so ecstatically happy I had the surgery! No more dragging prolapse, no more baggy/ post pregnancy gape down below, no more urine leaks, I can wear tampons again comfortably, sex is just wow... Amazing: I can feel EVERYTHING! I'm totally back to life before surgery but better! It may sound dramatic but it's made me feel sexy again and at only 37, that's a huge thing.

So ladies, you are bound to worry, stress, try to do too much etc but it's natural... Believe me, I drove my husband mental with my constant worry and witling about it... But it is so worth it. I don't want to cause roll of the eyes/ well bully for you in anyone but thought I would share a positive story for all you who are worrying etc.

Take care, and keep sharing on this amazing forum. And matron, you are the icing on the cake... I just hope you realise what an amazing, caring lady you are who has given hope and advice to so many, and humour when needed too!

Resting this is so encouraging to hear, I too have this bulge and have been terrified prolapse has been a failure, but a few of u are saying u had it too. I had my op 2nd Nov. And my main problem has been pain. I was hoping for reassurance on Thurs but as I posted my op was cancelled. It has brightened my day to think maybe eventually all will be well. At 16 weeks because of the pain I'm still to scared of having sex in case it makes the pain worse. And as for ur comments about matron, goodness wot would we do without her. Her advice and support has been invaluable. X

Resting123, great to hear your story. So pleased for you that you are doing so well. As someone recently diagnosed it is a breath of fresh air to read something so positive. I know I will be posting success stories when I get there, as there is too much negativity online.

Can I just ask, is exercise part of your new normal? I am really hoping to get back to some high impact exercise but can't judge whether this is a realistic goal after surgery? Thanks x

High impact exercise is a long way down the line after prolapse surgery. You are looking at around 18 months at the very earliest depending on which surgery you have.

Oh yes, sorry just realised this is only a few months after surgery.

Yes I was thinking long long term smile

Your consultant will be able to give you the best advice acor so hopefully you'll have a post op appointment and you'll be able to discuss it with him. After all he's the expert and I wouldn't do any high impact exercise without discussing it with him first.

      Hi acor,

I do yoga, swimming and high speed walk for maybe 2-3 miles most days so not high impact (but the walking is with a dog and pushing a buggy!) am back to all those. It's probably only been this week that I've got the speed up again on the walking. I started walking short distances around 5 weeks and very slowly and built it up from there. I was sore on my perinium for weeks and weeks so have only just gone back to swimming.

To be honest, I'd be very wary about doing anything that involves jumping around too much as I'd be gutted to go through it all again.

      X

Wise words Resting. And remember ladies we are all different and nobody knows exactly what happened during our operations as much as the consultant so he/she must be consulted before any exercise particularly high impact exercise.

Yes, I still haven't had my post op consultation either. Was end of this month and then was cancelled and now is early March. Ridiculously long time since my surgery but hey ho!

      Hi hun

I will keep you posted on the exercise side. I'm 5 weeks post and have even done some wallpapering this week!

Gonna ask my trainer if I can go back next week for a session to see how I am x

      Thanks doris29.

How are you doing now? Hope your recovery has been as smooth as possible. Are you glad that you have had the surgery?

Previously I was having physio to try and reduce symptoms but have now found out I definitely need surgery and am very concerned about losing my active lifestyle but equally want to be able to fully enjoy my baby without worrying about prolapse!

Hope all has been going well with you smile x
