Light-headed, dizzy & spaced out for 2 years, can anyone help?

Hi there,
I'm hoping / praying someone can shed some light on my extremely frustrating & somewhat debilitating symtoms. Aprox two years ago I started to feel a little light headed, I was working in retail at the time and the shop was incredibly busy (I have always worked in sales, so this did not phase me, what did cause me concern was how light headed I had been feeling) At the time, I presumed it was just a side effect from citalopram - something I had been prescribed six months earlier for feeling a little low. I did think it was strange that I felt woozy and light headed six months into the course as I had only previously experienced this feeling at the very beginning. I mentioned it to my doc and they agreed if i felt ready i should taper off citalopram - so i did. Slowly but surely i reduced my dose and presumed the light headed, dizzy almost drunk feeling would disappear - much to my surprise, i am still in the same state - blurred vision, wobbly, floaty and very very dizzy.
I have been to see my GP numerous times - my iron & bloody sugar levels, thyroid have been tested. They even sent me for an MRI scan and it all came back clear. My blood pressure is a little low but nothing too alarming and the ENT doctor said they couldn't find any inner ear problems (which I kind of thought would be the case because it's not a spinning sensation that you might expect from say labyrinthitis, it's more of a constant faint feeling)
It is a nightmare crossing the road or entering a busy supermarket. I am no longer quick on my feet and my memory is very poor too. I feel dazed and confused a lot of the time and extremely tired.
I'm only 31 and have a real love for life - can anyone suggest what could possibly be happening to me? I would be incredibly grateful as this god awful 'whatever it is' is really taking it's toll on my work, my relationship with my partner, friends and family (more so because there is no diagnosis as yet so I feel like people don't really understand what is actually wrong with me) every day I pray that this has just been a nightmare and I will wake up and feel normal again.
Look forward to your feedback...

Hi there,
I am still experiencing same symptoms but with less intensity. I strongly believe that mine is stress related. Recently met a person that had exactly the same symptoms and said that his went away when doctor prescribed antidepressants. Velafax and later Amyzol (European brands). He claims he's fine now.
I am very reluctant in going on AD but this makes me more convinced that all this sh** that I've been going through for almost a year is stress and anxiety related and that I have to make some drastic changes in my lifestyle and way of thinking.
I strongly believe that my nervous system is overworked (stressed) to the point that it affect the nerves in the balance system.

Hi everyone,
I have just come across your discussion yesterday, it saddens me that so many people are going through this. But also a relief to know im not alone. I have been experiencing the same things for about 4 years since the passing of my mum. I am only 32 now and this has affected my life greatly the last few years and stop me from doing things. I have tried many treatments and doctors don't seem to give any notice. I am currently undergoing treatment via a chiropractor advanced biostructural correction ABC have you heard of this? It is helping but the dizziness hasn't gone. Is there anything anyone else can recommend?
Thanks in advance :-)

Hi Deb,
I hope you still get notifications for replies to this post you made 3 years ago! My name is Steve, and I have the exact same symptoms that you described in your post. I had vestibular neuritis 2 years ago now, and have recovered to a point that sounds like how you detailed. I have to say that I can go for a stretch of maybe 5 weeks or so feeling great, with few symptoms, and I think that maybe I put it all behind me, and then for some reason the symptoms return.. mildly, but enough to make going to a supermarket, a noisy busy social event, or just unfamiliar close surroundings very challenging.
Given that you posted this 3 years ago, I'm really interested, and hopeful, that you've improved. Would you mind taking a minute to let me know how you're doing?
Thank you, and all the best.
Steve

Hi - I just stumbled upon this post trying to figure out whats wrong with me. I started feeling a bit off awhile back. I'm an athlete so I just thought I was tired and took some time off. It got worse so I had some blood work done. Everything was fine except my BP was a little low, my Iron was a little low & my Progesterone & Estrogen had dropped?! My Doc put me on some Iron tablets & lifted my hormones. Its been a month now and I'm just getting worse...I've gone into depression, I feel like I'm on some kind of drug in La La Land. I don't know If I would say I'm dizzy, just way off-super lightheaded. Noises bother me and I don't trust myself in grocery stores or where there is a lot of people/commotion going on. I actually chewed someone out the other day - not like me at all. My eyesight is blurry - just like I'm drugged up. There is also a ringing in my ears that I've never had before & it doesn't stop. Weirdly, I make myself go out and walk - it seems like the unbalanced/lightheadness that I feel when I'm just standing/sitting/doing normal stuff feels normal when I'm in a state of moving, like walking. So far, I've had colonoscopy- she thought I might be loosing blood there - clean as a whistle, endoscopic - yes, there is some GERD but no blood lose, Vitamin D/Bs tested-fine, Eco on my heart-strong as ever...now she wants to send me to have a Pap Smear - Cancer? She even mentioned Chronic Fatigue - no disrespect, but 'Syndromes' are just another phrase for 'I don't know what the heck is wrong w/you/'. Has anyone come across any concrete evidence to these symptoms - as they are so similar to the people in this thread. It is becoming debilitating as I'm not doing anything now but hanging out in my house...I'll be honest, if this is my lot, I don't want to stay here.............

I have to say I disagree with your comment about Syndromes. I have Caroli's Syndrome and I can assure you that my consultant did know what is wrong with me and gave me the appropriate treatment (I had a liver resection). If your doctor had said ME (myalgic encephalitis) instead of CFS would have been equally dismissive? They are two names for the same disease. In terms of lightheadedness have you been referred to the ear department as that can cause lightheadedness. The fact that you also have tinnitus (noises in the ears) also suggests a possible ear problem

I apologize - no disrespect - I will look into the Ear direction and I'm also looking into Lyme Disease since I've spent so many hours in the woods running. At this point, I am my own Doctor and I've narrowed it down to Thyroid and Lyme knowing both can be difficult to detect. Thank you for your insight~

Thank you - I actually have an appt this week with an ENT - I've also got my Doc to start me on some meds for Lyme - I know how difficult & frustrating it can be just to get this diagnosis - I'm hoping the Ear/Ringing/FishBowl feeling will be addressed w/ the ENT; however, the extreme fatigue is another issue. Still fighting~

I was really interested in this post - thank you very much for sharing. At age 32 I was diagnosed with MS which manifested with a lot of eyeproblems - Nystagmus, loss of colour vision, double vision. I also had a relapse where I had strange muscle spasms in my neck. Also Tinnutus. Lots of other stuff has gone on but the most debilitating one is very similar constant feelings similar to DizzyDebs. i.e. feeling very confused and strange vision effects on going out - having to search the shelves in shops becomes impossible after just a few minutes.., Supermarkets being almost unbearable. Unable to think clearly to the point of having to abort any trip and go home. Even time with my Grandchildren is very limited. This has been happening for many years and each time I try to explain to Docs/Neurologists I get the same response "Anxiety" and am sent for CBT or other courses to do with stress reduction - none of them make any difference at all to the problem. I am not at all anxious to go out - I do not feel stressed - BUT once I am out Then I do feel anxious because of the disorientation I am experiencing.
I teach Yoga and do understand how the mind/body interacts and how thoughts affect the physical body.
I do all the positive mind talk when I'm out but that doesn't work either. To me it feels a very physical - not mental problem. I am now 70 and feel my whole life since MS diagnosis has been dumbed down by this problem. I know I could be in a much worse physical condition if the MS had affected my mobility - but this brain fog etc. is extremely debilitating and I just want to find a way to help myself as much as I can. Being labelled as 'anxious' has followed me from Doctor to Doctor and each one just seems to go along with the written history- I've had enough! Can anyone throw any further light on this please? Thank you for staying with this long request..
