Lingering pain 4 weeks after flare up

It has been over 4 weeks after my 2nd flare in 16 mos..my energy has come back for the most part but I still experience nagging pain in my lower abdomen before bowel movements that persist until my colon is clear. My gp prescribed bentyl 10 mg when needed and it has seemed to resolve some of that discomfort and pain but is this somewhat common? I have not had loose bm, blood or fever.

i had my first flare up when i was 31 and was fine tilk this january and im 46! i cant seem to clear it and get better. been on antibiotics twice and had a car scan that just showed inflammation. i keeo getting a fever and stomach pain every few weeks its so frustrating!! every website says you should only have pain for 2-3 days after so it makes me feel better to see i am nog the only one who has like lingering wide pain and complications. i just wish i could clear this bout and move on! i had to cancel colonoscopy because i keep having a flare up very annoying!!

Reading all these messages is very interesting and enlightening to me- I am in my late 70s- had my first diverticulitis attack 4 years ago: since then I have had several attacks several months apart: they were all mild. However, the present attack is really painful- went to the ER Saturday doubled up with abdominal pain. CT scan showed acute uncomplicated diverticulitis and was prescribed Augmentin. This is day 5 and I still have abdominal pain: am considering going back to the ER: living on cottage cheese and yoghurt- horrible. I ate a soft fried egg and the pain became intolerable. I have an additional complication- I am completely obstipated and require large amount of magnesium to move my colon., When I am healthy this is no problem: i take it every other day. But with this attack, when I took the magnesium I developed terrible pain that lasted for many hours. Right now the abdominal pain is manageable but still present with moments of sharp pain. I am considering going back to the ER-- no fever- I do have pain with touch of my abdomen but imagine most people have that when they are inflamed. I hate going to the ER- never less than 7 hours there and thought maybe I would get admitted. Should I go to the ER or just have more patience and wait for the pain to go away: this is day 5 of the attack. This is a horrible condition and I am thinking of surgery- I have had so many CT scans It is a wonder I don't light up!! Appreciate all your opinions.

is anyone still taking part in this discussion ? its hard to find information on what to do with this disease
i had my first flare up in 2019.
my second flare up happened just this April /may. i was on antibiotics but then it turned into an abscess and i had to have a procedure where they put a tube in me to drain it . since then I've stopped drinking and changed my diet but just two weeks ago i had another flare up. it wasn't so bad this time as i felt better right away the next morning after i was released from the ER , but now I'm having lingering pain and there isn't much information out there on if there is pain or what to do if you have it . i have painkillers but i have not taken them yet. i was taking Metamucil before the flare up and also was drinking kombucha too. i have quite the active life , i am 41 , i play soccer and do lots of cardio and have started weight training since my last flare up 8 months ago. i feel much healthier than i can ever remember so this latest flare up is really messing with me. on the one hand i'm amazed how quickly i recovered from the flare up on the other hand , this pain is really having a psychological affect on me. im wondering if i should continue taking metamucil , and what else i need to change from my diet. i feel like i am too young to get surgery and want to heal myself without it

Hi
I've had two attacks first last October which resulted in bowel perforation, managed with antibiotics and pain killers with a 6 day stay in hospital. Second attack only last week. Again another stay in hospital 5 days but no perforation this time. Three out of four beds on our bay were acute diverticulitis. Its much more common than I'd realised. From the first attack to now I have done everything as recommended by the consultant I'm really at a loss as to what to do next to stop or reduce these flare ups! Quite depressing its definitely taking a toll on my mental health since both attacks took me completely by surprise. I dare not make plans for holidays abroad etc since I'd be terrified it would happen again.
