Linx surgery for acid reflux

Posted , 135 users are following.

Has anyone esperienced this relatively new surgery for acid reflux which doesnt respond to drugs.

Or does anyone know anything about it. It is much es invasive than the nissen fondiplication op. done by day surgery I think. My gastro ent. didnt mention it but I thought I might investiage.just out of interest as a possible future option if all else fails. I am having so much trouble with side effects from

drugs and not much effect on my acid reflux either still getting reflux at night and quite sore throat.

Any comments welcome.

Hi everyone ,for the last two years I have been sat up in bed coughing, wheezing, the works, with every inhaler on the market plus all antacid meds.Eventually I was told that I could have the nissen fundoplication opp.as the Sphinx muscle at the top of the stomach was open all of the time.they would repair my hiatus hernia and then do some kind of wrap to fix the above. I had my opp on Monday the 8th was out of hospital Tuesday evening.took some meds for feeling sick for a day or so.the pain from the surgery gass was more painful than anything else.lol Saturday I changed the corner feeling great.lost 9lb .not feeling hungry but just ordered my purée foods .cant wait.swallowing is hard I must take my time even if i mash things with afork it sticks.but it's only been one week and a day so onwards and upwards.i hope this helps people make the decision for the nissen op.thumbs up by me.thanks for reading x

Hi! Just been diagnosed with acid reflux and hiatus hernia and the meds don't seem to be working. I know I've lots of tests to get through /hoops to jump before I'm offered a surgical procedure but just wondered if we can correspond regarding your experience with your op? Are you in the UK or the States? Hoping your recovery is good. Very best wishes, Jo x

Hi Linda. Yes I had linx 6 months ago. Best thing that ever happened to me. After nearly 30 yrs reflux and gerd abd taking every ppi licensed I'm now pain free symptom free and no longer take meds I can eat what I like and my quality of life is so much better. I also had. 3cm HH repaired at the same time. The critaria is very strict though. No Hh over 3 cm and no barretts hope this helps

Oh man, I've had the grossest taste in my mouth for two years. They found a cyst in my throat thinking that was the taste, one surgery later for a cyst removal I still had the taste. My ENT kept telling me it could be silent acid reflux but I thought he was crazy because I don't ever have 'heartburn', and my taste is not that acid throw up taste you get with acid reflux, it taste more like rot. No dentist could find anything. The taste just came on me one day, it was a few weeks of the taste slowly creeping up and then one day it was there pretty much everyday, getting worse immediately after I eat ANYTHING.

Finally, when looking for a 'pocket' in my throat doing the Barrium test they accidentally discovered that I had a HORRIBLE (one of the worst cases they've seen) of silent acid reflux. Bunch more test later they confirmed I have a ridiculous case of silent acid reflux and they think is causing the taste, so they want to do the Linx surgery.

Sooooooooo, I'm really curious as if the people who suffered from the smelly burps and gas, has it gone away? And did the doctor give you the reasoning why it smelled like sulfur? My doctor has warned me about the burping and gas, but not how bad it can smell/taste. I've lived with a horrible taste in my mouth for two years, the last thing I want to do is trade that in for a sulfer taste! It the horrible foul gas and burping last for a few months then I can deal, but dying to know if it does eventually go away.

Hello this may be a silly question. I have been reading up about all your posts re the operations Nissen and Linx. Glad to hear it has worked for many smile

I have just been diagnosed with GERD. A bit of a shock as the drop has been so sudden - suddenly all food coming up. It appears that previously I had a silent reflux and just did not realise - did not connent the symptoms. This means that the meds I was prescribed increasingly do not work. Started with omezaprole - increased, then rabeprazole - incrased, added raniditine too - increased, now labeprazole (30 am 30 pm) + raniditine.

Can someone please tell me how far does it have to go before I get referred to GI in the UK. I have nearly cried in my GP's surgery, but he is not budging saying I have to give all the meds a go.

Although I have officially suffered rather shortly, I am at the end of my witts 1 month down the line. Only sleep 1-2 hours a night. Currently on sick leave - but how will I manage my job I am the main breadwinner?

Can someone let me know what tests am I likely to have and how long these take in the UK before I can even get to LINX please? I am really desperate.

I am so sad, as if I had true symptoms, I could have changed my lifestyle, tested food that works, etc. I just had this sudden blow - really upsed...

Any advice woudl be really appreciated. With great wishes to all. Denise

Hi Denise I'm so sorry your suffering but I won't go on and on. You can demand a referral to an upper GI sprciallst as the first step then you need several tests including an endoscopy this will give the team a good idea as to what's wrong also if you have a hiatus hernia. Then a barium swallow a 24 hour ph study and possibly more. This will take time as he will need to study all your test results and see if and which surgery is an option. I had my linx fitted in June and I'm a new man. I know an excellent support group of you want to knoW more. In the meantime please keep in touch and don't gove up Paul

Take more omeprazol until LINX.  Increase a pill at a time; it stops for good once the right dose is hit.  With insufficient dose, H blockers (ranitidine/famotidine) are overused to make up the difference, at the cost of your liver ostensibly.  Take at bedtime to elude symptoms.
