Linx surgery for acid reflux

Posted , 135 users are following.

Has anyone esperienced this relatively new surgery for acid reflux which doesnt respond to drugs.

Or does anyone know anything about it. It is much es invasive than the nissen fondiplication op. done by day surgery I think. My gastro ent. didnt mention it but I thought I might investiage.just out of interest as a possible future option if all else fails. I am having so much trouble with side effects from

drugs and not much effect on my acid reflux either still getting reflux at night and quite sore throat.

Any comments welcome.

The success rate of the LINX is far I'm excess of 90% and a million times better, safer and and less invasive then the NISSEN wrap , flundification etc.  The advantage als is it IS reversible, unlike the previous procedures I have mentioned. It's a new procedure and I am part of a worldwide clinical study after being asked if I would take part in order to find out more anout post operative over 3 years. I had mine fitted in June and after over 30 years of ppis I no longer take ANY meds all my symptoms have gone and it's totally transformed my life. I'm sorry yours was t successful I do know of problems some have had but they were all treated successfully with dilation etc, I don't know your circumstances so I can't comment on any more general terms. I am part of a group of LINXTERS where we discuss support share information which is fantastic, I'm more than happy to talk to anyone considering this procedure it's safe and as I say it'snot too invasive as its carried out using key hole surgery.   I hope this balances things and I believe in it passionately    Finally whilst I accept and endorse the precious post saying be careful, of course we should be careful of ANY procedure as I was before my linx was fitted. I did my research and the pros far outweighed the cons. I and most others I know would support and endorse LI X.       Good luck.    Paul

Sounds like crap to me. Had it fitted 18 months ago. Are you an out of date and out of touch GP or consultant who needs retraining by any chance? Had comments and "scare" stories from my GP who had never heard of it but strongly advised against and strongly recommended the Nissen. Similar sort of comments to you. End of the day everyone experiences different outcomes (mine completely positive) but such extremes as this sound rubbish!

hi there.. i live here in USA.. i've been suffering from GERD with ~2 cms hiatus hernia for more than 3 years now. I don't know if it's larger now or what. LINX surgery seems to be my only hope as I am afraid to undergo Nissen Fundoplication. Do you have some scars on your abdomen? I am sure they are not very noticeable. I am very happy for the success of your Linx surgery. I hope mine will be over someday. It's always a torture each single day. I followed all the GERD diet guidelines and I exercises moderately. I hope I could have mine done here in USA. God bless. Thanks in advance. Hope to hear from you.

Hi Ernest yes there are 5 small incisions but as its laprasotic they're hardly noticeable and all but disappear wih in a couple of months or so

I had a 3cm HH which was repaired during surgery this is the maximum size they will implant the linx

Please feel free to ask any questions

      Hi

I am finally on a waiting list for the linx having endured unbearable symptoms for the past 5 years and bring pushy for the op for the past year.

Hopefully I will have it fitted within 18 weeks fingers crossed as the unpredictability of the symptoms are do fearful than having the op which may correct them.

Thanks to you all for your posts as they have been enlightening. .....and I want my life back.

Hello not sure how long ago you had your LINX implanted, but I was interested in your LINXSTERS Support Griup. I had mine fitted last Tuesday 14/03/2017 and would like to hear from others who have had it done too. I had mine at St Heliers Hospitak by Mr Nehra in the U.K.

      Thank you

Hi Alison, I am due to have the LINX fitted in January by Mr Nehra, at Epsom Hospital. I'm interested as to why you had yours done at St Helier, which is a lot nearer to me than Epsom! How did the op go and how do you feel now?

    Hello everyone,

I suffer severly from GERD. The pain has gotten to the point where I've had to leave my job and drop my classes because of the pain I get from it. I am 21 years old(22 next month) and live in San Jose, CA. I have had to go to the E.R. five times already and my doctor just keeps prescribing me medicines. At first the meds where working but now nothing works. The last medicine my Doctor prescribed me was Protonics. I keep telling my Doctor if they can do the LINX surgery on me but he doesn't want to. He says I am too young and that the medicine will work. I have insurance with Kaiser Hosptial. I am now at the point where I am going to search for a private Doctor to do the surgery on me. I know there is a doctor in Walnut Creek and a Doctor Tamas in UC Davis who does the surgery. Does anyone know of any other closer Doctor who can do the surgery on me? Will my Kaiser insurance pay for this if I get it somewhere else? Please help..

    Thanks in advance,

    Luis

If u really want to make it happen. Doctor john lipham in USC, LA will be the best one. I have got the Linx yet but i talked to bunch of ppl on facebook and asked them alot info, most of the, recommemded him. So i started to go to his office. He has done like hundreds linx procedures already so he probably got lots of experiences rather than anyone else. Even people from other state came over for his treatment. He is a very cool guy, very patient and listen to patients even i asked weir questions abt my pro. anw, good luck

      Hi Maddie,

Hope you still pick up your messages as I know this post is over a year old now. Just wandering what GERD symptoms you experience and whether you are any closer to getting your linx? I'm also a similar age to you (23) and have suffered with acid reflux since I was 20 years old. I first started experiencing the sensation of a lump in the back of my throat and then shortly after the heartburn started after everything I ate! I was put on omeprazole 20mg which controlled my symptoms for just over 2 years and it was upped to 40mg when my heartburn starting coming back. While on omeprazole I could eat a normal diet and only experienced heartburn if I ate a particularly greasy/spicy meal but otherwise completely symptom free! However my omeprazole stopped working about 4 months ago, I started to get heartburn after everything I ate again even when on the omeprazole! I also get this horrific sour taste in my mouth and bad breath. I don't seem to suffer with any of the silent reflux issues such as coughing though just a constant burning in my throat. Ive tried other PPI's lansoprazole and pantoprazole but neither have had any affect. Also tried domperidone which is like a drug for motility I think but nothing has helped! Even if I take gaviscon it gives me about 30 mins of relief before the heartburn comes back. I really want to find someone of a similar age to me having these problems as most people who suffer this are a lot older so I don't feel like I can relate to them as well. I'm having my ph testing done this week which is also called a bravo I think so will hopefully get some more answers. My endoscopy has come back clear with no problems no hiatal hernia etc. I really feel lost at the moment and like my life is upside down, I can't socialise with my friends as can't eat food in restaurants, can't drink alcohol and can't even go for a coffee. I also absolutely love cooking but all I can manage to eat at the moment is plain chicken salads... It sucks. Please let me know that it gets better and that I can resume my normal life again!!!

You have to take more omeprazol, until you can get LINX.  2 pills is not much and obviously not enough.  It is funny that it seems you have needed permission to do so heretofore.
