Linx surgery for acid reflux

Posted , 135 users are following.

Has anyone esperienced this relatively new surgery for acid reflux which doesnt respond to drugs.

Or does anyone know anything about it. It is much es invasive than the nissen fondiplication op. done by day surgery I think. My gastro ent. didnt mention it but I thought I might investiage.just out of interest as a possible future option if all else fails. I am having so much trouble with side effects from

drugs and not much effect on my acid reflux either still getting reflux at night and quite sore throat.

Any comments welcome.

Please, did anyone here before the surgery have BAD BREATH as part of the acid reflux symptoms.I suffer from reflux but most likely LPR.My GI tells me the reflux is the cause of the my bad breath.Dentists have cleared me and i even took out my tonsils; all to no avail.Barium swallow confirmed profuse acid reflux.I have been scheduled for PH probe and manometry in preparation for the linx surgery. The surgery seem to be my last resort becasue i have suffered this for morethan 12years now and life is no fun at all. Please kindly let me know if bad breath/tongue coating/bitter taste in mouth/post nasal drainage were part of your reflux symptoms that have now been resolved by the linx surgery. Thanks

Hi, I developed really bad brreath when I came off PPI's so tried probiotics and it cleared up in a few days. I got the refrigerated, expensive ones from the health food store. 8 different types of probiotics.

Just like to add that I haven't had surgery so maybe you'd want to consult your GP before taking probiotics. I surmissed that the bad smell was from badly digested food and the probiotics fixed that really quick, but to get the live ones you need to go for the refrigerated varieties.

      Luck

I had linx "done" three weeks ago and it has been great,  I am unable to take PPI's therefore some of the older treatments were unsuitable.    It is only on the national health service in a couple of area's and not all private insurance will pay for it.  But for me well worth the effort,  still on a limited diet till it totally settles down,  but just so much better taken no drugs, and minor discomfort at the time.    No MRI's in the future though.  But I would recommend to others

There can be swallaowing difficulty if scar tissue tightens the magnets too much...I have had mine gently stretched twice.  The 1st time was 10 days after surgery and then again at my one-year follow up endoscopy. I find that food sticks more often in the morning (or first meal of the day), especially if I am eating too quickly.  It's all very manageable though!
