Linx surgery for acid reflux

Posted , 135 users are following.

Has anyone esperienced this relatively new surgery for acid reflux which doesnt respond to drugs.

Or does anyone know anything about it. It is much es invasive than the nissen fondiplication op. done by day surgery I think. My gastro ent. didnt mention it but I thought I might investiage.just out of interest as a possible future option if all else fails. I am having so much trouble with side effects from

drugs and not much effect on my acid reflux either still getting reflux at night and quite sore throat.

Any comments welcome.

      Hi,

If you wish to have this operation, you can demand to have the op at any hospital, in the UK, that performs the Linx procedure.

This operation changed my sons life. He had the Linx op just over 3 year ago.

Unfortunately there are only a very few hospitals that do the linx procedure I was lucky as my local hospital pioneered it in this country

Although you can demand as you say to be treated in a hosp that does this the health authority you come from has to find it hence there not being very many referrals as a friend of mine found out

Hi there, you are lucky, which hospital was that? I am betting none close to me in Yorkshire are doing it. Although there is a possibility I might be able to get it through in Leeds? Anyone know where i can find out which hospitals are doing this procedure please?

Hello Sue. I'm hoping you still check this forum. I was wondering if you or your son would be to willing to join a LINX group on Facebook that exist of people who have had or are going to have the procedure. Having someone with such a long history with the device would be of great value. I don't know of anyone else who has had it for so long. His success and experience would be a great inspiration for others going through the process right now.

I had been suffering with choking on my acid reflux, I got offered a Nissan Fundliplication, which I had 8 weeks ago. They also repaired my small Highatus hernia. Op went well for me and no probs with acid reflux but I am suffering with nausea. Eating is ok I cant eat bread yet and pastry is a problem, but i tend to indulge myself with lots of poached fish, pasta and desserts. On the plus side I am slowly loosing a little weight...

I sufferred for over seven years with acid and the meds ended up only working short term, and had to use double strength gaviscon as well as the top wak meds. It didnt help much and I found my vitamin D was deficient and as the drugs they give you to stop the acid is an inhibitor i found that I broke my foot and wrist.

I have recovered quickly and quite well I do get the nausea but that will go.

If you can have this go for it! i was scared and went for it in the end and things are so much bettter

    best of luck Alison J

ps let me know how you get on xx

There is a linx facebook page where people are very helpful for people looking into this surgery or who are recovering. It may be very helpful for those asking questions!

they deleted my reply. Not sure why. Search for LINX Surgery for GERD/Acid Reflux/Silent Reflux/LPR . you should find the group.

I had my Linx done 5 weeks ago.  I am so glad to read these posts.  I have some mild diysphagia and just take my time eating and always have a drink nearby.  I had my Linx done more for LPR than acid reflux. My surgeon told me that it will take several months for my symptoms to go away.  I breathe better, still have some burning in my throat but recently have been suffering from bloating and discomfort. It comes and goes but glad that others have mentioned this
