Live from hospital bed after partial knee replacement!

Hi everyone. Well today I went down for surgery at 8.30. Didn't know until surgeon opened me up to see if would be total or a partial. I'm only 46 so was really hoping for just the patella femoral replacement. Luckily he was able to do this.

I have had quite a few surgeries over the year and I have to say this is the best I've ever felt

Anathestist was uncertain whether I could have spinal due to back surgery, but says he would try. He was able to, since had this asking with a full general anaesthetic. Apart from taking forever to come round. Didn't get back to room until 3. All has been really good. No pain at all. Legs feeling dead was weird (wet muss twice!). Feeling back now and I've been given painkillers.

Haven't been out of bed today but will tomorrow.

Thank you for all your support beforehand. I was a nervous wreck this morning and had a good cry, but feel great right now. I know there will probably me more pain tomorrow but for now I'm so happy I'm pain free! X

I had my total knee replacement ( but kept my own kneecap) yesterday....pretty numb but was out standing and a few supported steps. Drains out today so icing started....found out I ended up being intubated as my 02 dropped....I'd been ill with bronchitis so I guess that's why.. plus I'm chubby which I know doesn't help... .bending and moving in bed started good ..but then I vomited a few times so the pain built and I hit a wall.. ...meltdown..icing and painkillers later and it eventually settled....i knew from reading in here that the pain could b v severe....i can't say enough for how good the nurses and staff are here...its v important not to let pain get to that unreachable stage...best of luck Debs...hopefully we recover well together ?

Good wishes to you too! It's not easy, but it does get better, especially after the first two weeks!

Gosh Linda sounds like you've been through a lot. Glad its improving now. Didn't get much sleep, brain just wouldn't switch off, very weird. More pain this morning but just had strong painkillers. Not been out of bed yet, going for x-ray later this morning and guess physio will get me up. Hope your recovery goes well. Keep me posted. X

We can do this! We have to !! This is the beginning of our new mobility chapter! My surgeon said my knee was in a shocking state!!! So it's comforting to know that I didn't put myself through this unnecessarily!!!! Thinking of you debs...

My consultant just been in and said the same the patella femoral joint was in a hell of a state. Rest of knee not too bad. Hoping this meant I wouldn't need a total in future but said I still will. I need to lose weight to try and put off as long as possible! I do try I lose it and then it goes back on. Hopefully I can start exercising again after recovered!

My heart goes out you. I pray for strength for you for good results.

I finally went back to clinic after 4 weeks of no progress.  They gave me muscle relaxers and what a big difference. Last night was my 1st good night sleep, I kept walking up every 2 hours to have to get up and move but my muscles are relaxed now. no mire stress. Take care now.

correction: I still wake up every two hours to move.

      cyclobenzaprine 10MG

I never felt so relaxed my muscles. 1st day you will get sleepy (I did because I haven’t been sleeping good) 2nd day is better. I take two a day.

I’m trying hard to bend my knee yet, hardly making progress. any advise will help me. Some of my family keep saying I’ll get peg leg, I’m just terrified.

Found your report very interesting as waiting for the same, and been told a partial knee replacement but may wake to a TKR after knee is opened. I am so worried about spinal anaesthetic as have had two that did not work so far, and then had general anaesthetic that froze everything up for nearly 3 days and had to be catheterized. They want to try again and I don't really want them to try, what happens if not properly knocked out with spinal and I am sedated as well ?.

Discuss your fears with the anethesist before your op....mine was brilliant...she really listened and I trusted her expertise...i asked to be cathererized as I know I can't hop up and down off a bedpan due to arthritis....day 2 post op and I've just been to the gym .....managed 75% bend.....ice on now....still painful....

Thanks Linda, I will discuss more with the Anaesthatist on Monday at my pre - op. Am going in 10 weeks for my Prostate to be removed so don't want a catheter in case of infection.
