Looking for support :-)

Had a TKR on 9/7/17 and I am struggling a little - hoping to connwct with others who are in similar situations. Striving to remain positive but I have had a few rough days.

Hope to start driving soon. Walking w/o cane or walker but can’t go too far yet :-(

ROM is 120

Struggling with getting comfortable at night, staying up all day and the emotional aspects of being limited. Joined the forum to connect.

Do you mean 9 July or 7 September ? . In the UK we use day first , in the US it's month first , causes confusion . I think which ever it is you will be driving soon . I was driving at just over 3 weeks . I found I could sleep better almost  sitting up in bed with lots of pillows , also watched television , the boring programmes helped to send me to sleep . Plenty of exercise , but not too much , take your medication it helps with pain . I will get easier as time passes , look forward to many pain free years . You will get there .

Thanks for the reply! Despite attending uni at Warwick - I still use “American” - LOL! I had surgery Sept 7, 2017. Baby steps I guess.

Early days but it really does get easier in time . There may be times when you think you will never get there , but you will . You  can't rush recovery , it's a journey not a race . 19½ & 17½ years since my TKRs with no problems  .

Hi, read around there is lots here! Take your time, no rush...your knee will set the pace!

Are you in UK or elsewhere?

It is hard the tiredness and energy drain of this major surgery. Be kind to yourself and be sociable as much as you can.

I used to just take a little nap in the afternoons, even if not actually sleeping.

Listened to music, watched comedy in my tablet while elevating and icing!

It does get better, how màny weeks are you?

Thanks Jenny! I am in the States. I appreciate your encouragement- it really helps!

Ah, 7 weeks! The worst is done...things move forward apace at 10 to 12 weeks...obviously every person different but it's going to be good!

I am seven months post op...

      Wonderful! Well worth the effort!

    Hi JinkyGirl

First rule do not try and get ahead of yourself this is a long process

listen to your body if you tire through the day have a sleep if you dont the stress will kick in take all medication ice your knee often and elevate it as much as you can exercise gently and often

I used a loose tubigrip at night it stops the scar rubbing if ypu driva an automatic car you should if its manual and if its your left knee take it easy at first

There is lots of support in this forum i hope the few i have given you will help it does get easier so dont despair

    Stay strong and good lock

    Johnny.

Very early days remember this is a marathon not a sprint

On the upside when things start to improve it feels great.

Your ROM is good I am struggling getting to 120 I had surgery 8/17/17 almost there. You sound like your doing well but I totally understand frustration with areas that are slower. You will be ok just keep practicing. This is a great site for help and support. Glad you joined.

Wishing you all good things in recovery ~ keep striving!
