Looking for words of encouragement

Hallo all. Just looking for some words of encouragement. I know all will be well and I will finally get my life back, but I'm still very anxious about my hip replacement surgery on Thursday (31st). I keep bursting into tears! Must get a grip.

Hi. Feeling a bit spaced out and like I've been kicked in the butt by a donkey 😊 But I've been for some little walks by myself and to the loo and back. I can do this!!

Jenny,
Now you have had the op you have no choice but 'to do it' 😂😂😂😂. I did panic after op and wondered what I had done to myself but, I have had no pain since op and I am grateful for that. It feels artificial, movement slightly restricted and heavier than my own but, saying that I do pilates, step aerobics (very fast) and zumba, use my elliptical walker so I cannot really complain.
Lots and lots of luck for your recovery, take it slow and easy not need to rush.

Thanks. So glad it's over! It'll be great to get back to Pilates. But for now, I shall chill, read, watch rubbish tv, and so on x

Yep, home now and have already managed to fall asleep in front of the tv/fire. I think I'll just get the husband to peel me another grape 😊

I saw my consultant on Friday , the driving guidelines he said are 6-8 weeks so I could if I feel comfortable etc start driving .I havent done so yet . I shall be 7 weeks post op on Tues.
Sleeping is difficult isnt it , I am. hoping now i can lay on my side if only for a short time nights might be more settled.I have had enough of making tea in the wee small hours and watching netflix .
Is your back issue since the op ? glad its better today.I have had a sore knee since the op but its only when i walk on the hard ground so am hoping it will resolve . 🤞

I started driving at six weeks, manual right hand drive, I had had my right hip replaced. My sister came with just to check things were OK. With hindsight I reckon I could have driven earlier, but was told to wait 6 weeks with a manual gear shift.

Actually I was different, although my recovery has been totally brilliant. I tried driving round the block at six weeks (manual right hand drive, right hip replaced). Yes I could drive, no I was not confident of doing a perfect emergency stop. Left it until eight weeks and I was fine, and confident.

its strange am in no rush to get back behind the wheel at the moment , ive been getting on the bus and going a few places something i never do and ive been enjoying it.
sleeping for me has been a nightmare , i can remember the night before my op and i was on the sofa trying to get comfy yet again with all the aches and pains saying to myself no to worry this will be my last night of this OMG how wrong was i so maybe its not aches and pains but numb bum and stiffness and then all of a sudden i remember this is going to pass and i will have my life back. isnt it lovely how we quickly forget the pain we were in bit like child birth i suppose !
i dont normally suffer with backache i put it down to my sleeping habits at present and am hoping that will disappear too.

I might do a couple of short drives near home this coming week but like you not that bothered .I have used the local bus and quite reluctant to start rushing about again like picking up grandchildren from school and all the'stuff' of life. Its important we recover fully.
The surgeon was saying on Friday that my knee pain may be related to the pressure on it during surgery and that some people suffer from backache for a while post op.due to the change in posture /gait .Lets hope yours goes away soon ..Yes like childbirth no pain no gain 😂

I suppose we are all a bit different in our recoveries and also when we feel cofident to drive .I think insurance companies like it to be 6 weeks .My son in law was driving 3 weeks after his knee replacement which i didnt think was very impressive

I hated the nights, I used to be awake on and off all night, and every day I started off with back ache. Once I could sleep on my side my back ache went. Hopefully it will be the same for you. (And I was the same as you, went out and about on buses, and also on the tube and train, using my crutches. Didn't really miss driving, though I suppose it depends on how handy public transport is!)

I did contact my insurance company before starting driving again. They did not seem too bothered about it!

When I got into the car after six weeks I found the battery totally flat and had to get a new one. The AA came out so I was able to drive immediately it was fixed. Also there was green moss round the windows. I suppose I had not been driving before my op as it was so painful.
