Looking for words of encouragement

Hallo all. Just looking for some words of encouragement. I know all will be well and I will finally get my life back, but I'm still very anxious about my hip replacement surgery on Thursday (31st). I keep bursting into tears! Must get a grip.

Hi. I feel really well and optimistic - thank you so much. I'm keeping myself busy and snoozing when I need to. I'm in very little pain at all, which is great. It's such a treat being at home...I won't like going back to work!

Don't even think about work Jenny. It will still be there! Also, your meds are doing the trick if you feel no pain, once you drop them you have to manage it as you see fit. Kip and rest as much as possible, once off the opiates, you may not sleep so good, good and bad things there!! Stay chipper

I'm only on occasional paracetamol/ibroprofen, so feeling grateful.

Hi Jenny, glad to hear you're starting the road to recovery. What did you decide with regards to sedation? How did you find the experience compared to what you read? Take things steady and embrace your new regime for the next few months 😃

Hi John. I went for a spinal and sedation. I was pretty terrified climbing onto the trolley but a nice chap chatted to me while the anaesthetist was down the business end. Then I just woke up and all done. My appetite is coming back a bit now- but I suppose it is all rather traumatic, physically. The surgeon has signed me off for 6 weeks but that takes me almost to my Xmas annual leave so I think I'll ask the gp to sign me off for a little longer. No need to rush back to work - I'm looking forward to embracing Christmas 😊

Glad your op is done Jenny, no doubt you will soon be home. The post op pain wont last too long, just make sure you keep on top of the meds and keep to all your hip precautions and of course do the physio. Is amazing how they are on it so quickly in hospital after the op, expect you have done the stairs by now ! I had my six week post op check yesterday which was all good and now I can think about starting to drive again.Yippee ! Make the most of your recovery all those books and box sets and rubbish tv ! Take good care

Thanks, Nat. Back home now and have already fallen asleep in front of Poirot. We lit the fire too so I just crashed! One of the physio sessions was a bit brutal yesterday - my meds hadn't kicked in so I was a weeping (and terrifyingly bra-less) mess!! All good now though and, however delightful the nursing staff were, it's lovely to be home x

I have to keep reminding myself that it's been quite a big op - I'm just so happy and grateful to have got rid of that awful OA pain. I plan to fall asleep in front of the tv tonight too. Lots of rest and rehab x
