Hey guys - 1 am 53 and have had gut related issues for about 7 years now. I suspect that my Diabetes Type-2 meds Metformin (glumetza actually) to be the culprit because i have runny foamy (greasy) foul smelling diarrhea most of the time. Occasionally ill have a regular movement but 3-4 days later it changes to starting firm and ending foamy. it also gives a bright yellow colour to the bowl - almost neon like. mild cramping but no deep ache or pain, however a few trips to the wash room (usually happens between 9 am and noon) and i am exhausted. Going for a complete blood, stool, urinalysis tomorrow. Has anyone had similar issues of ongoing IBS that may have been diagnosed due to meds? thanks,
Aj

So i have had fluffy looking stools for as long as i can remember. i am 23 now (male) and not overweight or any other conditions. but it never really bothered me until recently as i started looking things up. i never had any symptoms other than that. i never had cramps, pain, discomfort, i was never really gassy, poop was always brown. only time i had actual diarrhea was when i ate certain dairy products but even then i would just get very gassy instead, never had mucousy poop except for maybe a few times.. i would use the bathroom around the same times everyday (except my body would know when im home or not but always after waking up and before bed). although thinking back i honestly never really ate much fiber. i mostly ate white rice and meats or fast food (chicken and fries). all of which do not contain that much fiber. i always avoided most fruits and vegetables since im a picky eater. although i do remember when i did eat some vegetable dishes my poop would firm up a little. however recently, a doctor gave me about 3 meds that alter your gut balance (antibiotic, antacid, and a coritcosteroid) as i had strep and a case of indigestion one night (i normally never have acid problems though). and im 99% sure i got indigestion from being extremely slouched when eating pizza and cake and then i immediately laid down after eating which obviously makes it worse lol. but after a week of these meds my gut hasnt been the same since (5 weeks post meds) although its been getting better slowly. but i been actively trying to increase my fiber and my poop has actually been mostly solid now for a couple weeks. but my bowel movement have changed to once a day now instead of 2-3 times a day. but i also think my gut is still trying to recover from all those meds smh. especially since the antibiotic and antacid totally rocked my bowels (watery diarrhea after one day on antibiotic before i switched it).

Sounds like SIBO. when you have an imbalance of good and bad bacteria, to much bad and you will bloat cramp over digest =fluffy liquid diarrhea with cramping and unexpected bowel movements.this happens where the small allocated area for gas producing is enlarged x4 along colon due to too much bacteria. is treatable.

Wow, I am in shock to find other people with the same symptoms as me.
I’m 26 and for 4 months I’ve been dealing with very loose stools of different kinds, burping very much and loudly after eating and drinking, bloating and rumbling in my abdomen (like a strong baby kicking), feeling like I’m gonna explode at any point and it’s really affecting my social and love life.
4 months ago I was living in a community in the mountains where all of us got a stomach bug and we all had diarrhea symptoms, vomiting and others but everyone recovered after 2-3 days expect me. It took me 12 days of very liquid diarrhea and I couldn’t eat anything except bread and apples and became very skinny. After that I went away and I recovered but not completely, my stools being still very loose.
But before this, 5 years ago they told me I have gastritis and sometimes I’m still experiencing burning in my stomach, depending on what I eat, what my stress level is.
I’ve been running an endless number of blood and stool tests but the doctors didn’t find anything wrong with me.
I’ve also been living with Imodium and sometimes it doesn’t even work anymore.
I’m wondering if this is an emotional issue. Like @oz41808 said, when on antidepressants the loose stools stopped.
I’m curious to try an Ayurvedic remedy rather than live on antibiotics.
Please update if any of you finds anything. Thanks a bunch and keep healthy!

If anyone is here from googling this issue, might I suggest a potential cause: food allergies/intolerances. They can be super sneaky, I only figured out a handful of my own in my late teens that had been poisoning me since childhood since some of them are extremely common in food.
Don't ignore concerning symptoms (especially blood, coffee ground or fresh red looking, mucous, intense pain, many days in a row of constipation or diarrhoea, etc) but if you've checked for the more dangerous causes already, then it can be worth looking for certain foods or ingredients that could be the source of your woes.
If you're especially lucky like me with a weird systemic allergy issue, then any food high in histamines can be a trigger when your histamine levels are already high (like from environmental allergies in my case.) There are a bunch of raw veggies and seemingly random foods that I have to avoid during my allergy season that are fine the rest of the year.
Our guts are super complex systems that affect and are affected by nearly every other body system, so don't give up if you're struggling to figure it out. It can take time. It could even be mental health affecting your gut, or sleep patterns. Find people who understand and you can talk to for advice and/or stress relief, and if it's accessible to you then find a doctor who takes you seriously and is willing to check everything they can, even rare stuff. And remember that a few intolerances/allergies/malabsorption issues can be diagnosed with a simple test, like a breath test for how well you absorb fructose or a blood test for lactose intolerance!
I wish you all the best in your search for answers, relief, and understanding. May the cause be found amongst the first few things tested for (and not among the worst of them)!
