Losartin Potassium

Hi I would love to hear from any one who is on Losartin Potassium for High Blood Pressure. I am a very fit 56yr old who is working in a professional job that needs a clear head and plenty of energy. However after three years of constant anxiety I was diagnised as having high Blood Pressure following three weeks of serious nose bleeds, and was prescribed Amlodopine. This worked well on lowering my blood pressure but had such bad side effects that I finally persuaded my GP to stop them . I am now taking Losartin Potassium 25mg and where as the side effects are not as bad as with the Amlodopine ,I am still experienceing severe tiredness and feel muddled and confused at times. I have only been on them for a week now and have to go back to my GP in three weeks time, but even though I am back in work I am not functioning the way that I should be. I would appriciate it if I could hear from any one else who is on this medication because I have gone from a very active person to one who is struggling to get through the day . Thank you

When i read your post, your circumstances almost mirrored my own ones apart from the fact i take Candesartan and not Losartan. I started long distance running when i was 30 years old and soon able to run a sub three hour marathon. In 2000 i was diagnosed with high blood pressure and started taking Candesartan. Within a few months i lost all interest in running and went from fit to fat and lucky if i could run a 5 hour marathon let alone being placed 996th as i was in the 1982 London Marathon . I still go running but a shadow of my fomer self, i'm constantly tired, easily injured in my lower leg muscles, Lethargic and grumpy. I put up with this because i was worried about dying if i didn’t take the medication. The reason i am contacting you is i met an old gentleman of 92 who had similar history as we do with side effects only he refused to take the medication and binned them immediatly. He told me about a machine called "RespeRate which reduces blood pressure naturally by a daily regime of deep breathing. Needless to say i immediately found one on Amazon for £116 and purchased it. I'm not a doctor but want to give up any sort of medication because i don't trust big Pharma. When they say side effects they are actually talking about effects and the so called side effects are life changing, they were to me anyway. Back to RespeRate - I have been using it for just over two weeks and when i started my B/P stats were (SYS 155 - DIA 103 - PU 72) I'm down to 5 breaths a minute on Resperate. Now after 2 weeks my stats are (SYS 119 - DIA 85 - PU 72. I'm going to continue using ReseRate in tandem with my tablets but after six weeks i'm going to stop taking them and see what happens. The leaflet with the RespeRate details recommend 6 weeks use to see beneficial long term reductions in BP. They don't tell you to stop medication and I'm not advocating you follow my journey or give up taking medication i just wanted to share my discovery of ReseRate with you, and no, i don't work for the company who make them. I'm really excited at my current progress and hope to be able to get back into competitive veteran running in the very near future. I also supplement my diet with high strength Beetroot tablets which are great for lowering blood pressure. My personal choice is not to consult my doctor about my new regime as most of the doctors at my local surgery are very young and very inexperienced in life and totally in the pockets of the controlling corrupt pharmaceutical companies. I hope my message helps you and that you can resolve your current problems.
Merry Christmas

I started Losartan about one month ago and it immediately reduced my blood pressure to safe levels. The only side effects I have noticed has been some muscle pain in my pectorals and a dry cough when I am seated or laying down. I started on Lipitor today for high cholesterol.
I want these drugs to work because I want to maintain my quality of life. As long as the side effects aren't too debilitating I think mild side effects are worth it,

Also,
Losartin Potassium has given me a stuffy nose and nightmares,
The nightmares are visually vivid dreams that I usually remember when I wake up.
Can I get the pills without Titanium Dioxide?

I'm another one who has horrendous side effects from many BP meds, including Amlodipine. Losartan is the best for me so far but it doesn't control my BP sufficiently so yet another pill has been added, Doxazosin, with a new side effect being breathlessness when walking, and muscle pain. I'm trying to persevere with them as the high blood pressure is causing kidney problem. But you should return to your GP with the side effects you are experiencing, especially the depression. There are lots of other pills to try. Good luck.

Losartan Potassium has ruined my life. I was a healthy, normal 46 year old woman until I took this. My doc put me on it 3 months ago as we had trouble lowering my blood pressure with other meds. It did a good job of that but 3 weeks ago, I developed muscle twitching in my left thigh and a few hours later I could literally no longer walk and was in the most excruciating pain of my life.. Five physio sessions later with no improvement, I determined it is a side effect of the Losartan, which I have been off for the past week. I am slowly improving, to the point where I can hobble unaided to the bathroon. The hot water bottle has been my best friend, along with ice packs to help reduce the inflammation in my lower back and down my left leg. But it has been a long hard 3 weeks, off work with no sick days to cover, and the most pain I have ever felt in my life....extreme, excruciating, intolerable. I am hoping with the rest, heat and ice I will soon be able to walk enough to return to work.
I am currently taking Vit D 3(4000 UI/day) and CoQ10 (300 mg per day) to rebuild muscle strength, plus CoQ10 allegedly lowers blood pressure, so we will see.
I have read about others in the same boat as me from taking Losartan. Some of them end up in wheel chairs or have surgery hoping for relief. Incidentally, I found out my former neighbor also took Losartan and had the same experience--he couldn't walk for a long time.
This is serious, debilitating and happening a LOT.
There are many other drugs out there for HBP. In my opinion, any drug with a side effect that ruins your life, keeps you from earning a living and may put you in a wheel chair should not be on the market.
Don't think it can't happen to you.
I thought a severe side effect could never happen to me.
It did.

There is no answer unfortunately for most of us.
I've been to a Hypertension Centre and had all the tests going and my BP is still as erratic as it was 16 years ago. Actually I'm wearing a 24 hour BP momitor at the momemt. About six times it has had three attempts without getting a reading but the rest of the time it has been between 116/66 and 134/84 but with me most of the highs of 200/110 come in the early morning through to about 11am.
