Losartin Potassium

Hi I would love to hear from any one who is on Losartin Potassium for High Blood Pressure. I am a very fit 56yr old who is working in a professional job that needs a clear head and plenty of energy. However after three years of constant anxiety I was diagnised as having high Blood Pressure following three weeks of serious nose bleeds, and was prescribed Amlodopine. This worked well on lowering my blood pressure but had such bad side effects that I finally persuaded my GP to stop them . I am now taking Losartin Potassium 25mg and where as the side effects are not as bad as with the Amlodopine ,I am still experienceing severe tiredness and feel muddled and confused at times. I have only been on them for a week now and have to go back to my GP in three weeks time, but even though I am back in work I am not functioning the way that I should be. I would appriciate it if I could hear from any one else who is on this medication because I have gone from a very active person to one who is struggling to get through the day . Thank you

My BP is always at its highest in the morning and taking Losartan at night does not lower it for then. It gradually comes down during the day as I get active.
My doctor's father takes his after his mid day meal and for him that aviods side effects.

I was on Losartan for about four years till I realised it was that drug that made me feel so miserable and constantly going to look at night. There are 90 odd blood pressure drugs so ask to change if they don't suit you.

Stacy I've had further tests and the cough had nothing to do with the Losartan

Hi Stacy, my doctor just put me on Losartan. I am 76 years young and in good health although my blood pressure has been climbing (a few spikes in the 150's) and have a 50-60% blockage in my left artery. Reading the side effects has me worried but she wants to see me in four weeks so I figure I can manage any side effects for that period of time - then make the final decision about staying on the drug. I am a bit worried however because I see that all the posts here were posted over a year ago with no follow-up. Anyone out there now on Losartin?

It might reassure you to hear that my pharmacist says that Losartan is the BP drug about which he hears the least complaints of side effects from his patients.

Cough is not a normal Losartan side effect. The usual side efect is being light headed until your system adjusts to it. What other meds are you taking ?

If you are in the UK the Dr Scurr response to a patients question in Tuesdays Daily Mail said that patients with partially blocked arteries can avoid surgery/stents if taking statins.
Has your blockage been inproved by them?
" the fact that you have been diagnosed with coronary heart disease before any damage has occurred is a relief, as you are now on protective medication.
I should explain that the two coronary arteries (and the smaller vessels branching off them) are the heart's only source of oxygenated blood.
So a blockage here (due to the build-up of fatty deposits, called atheroma or plaques) is very critical.
The danger is that it will deprive part of the heart muscle of blood — triggering a heart attack.
Your letter mentions 16 arteries being clogged — perhaps you mean 16 points of severe narrowing?
But wherever these are, you are now protected by the atorvastatin, which, along with the aspirin, helps prevent blood clots forming and blocking arteries completely.
If your cholesterol drops low enough, so that your LDL (low-density lipoprotein, often referred to as the 'bad' cholesterol) level is 2mmol/litre, the plaques of cholesterol are likely to reduce in size.
Your dose of atorvastatin may be increased to 40mg or higher in due course to achieve this.
For many patients, treatment with tablets will be sufficient, even if the plaques are widespread."

Hi I was on Losartan for a couple of years but realised I was feeling very low and depressed and was getting out to the loo more than usual. Changed it for doxasosin so fingers crossed but as it's meant also for men wiTh prostrate problems to increase flow, I am still getting out to the loo at night. I believe there are hundreds of BP drugs so it's important to find one that suits you individually. Our genes and make up are all different and pharmaceutical companies all know this. Good luck.

When first on the market it was said to help men with erection problems but now it is said to cause ED.
