Losing hair

I’ve been using Levothyroxine 25mg for a month now. My hair is still thinning all over my scalp. I still lose the same amount of hair in the shower when i use shampoo. I see some changes including new hair growing from the sides of my eyebrows. My TSH level was 1,24 before i started using medication.

Anyone familiar with my situation?

English is not my first language, sorry.

    Hi

I suffered hair loss before starting levo. Once I was on 100mcg, after 6 months, my hair on my head started to grow back.

Does hair thinning run in the family?

No. It’s only me. I also have celiac disease. I’ve heard there is a connection between thyroid function and gluten.

Tony, what was your TSH level again? You entered 1,24. If you meant 1.24 that is a normal healthy level, so I’m guessing that’s not correct?

I meant 1.34. And yeah i know. But when i told him about my symptoms my doctor said i should try levothyroxin. He said i have low metabolism as well.

It will take a lot longer then a month to see improvement in hair loss.  I actually just read somewhere, that it takes about a year for hair to heal.  Try to have patience and try to wash your hair as less often as you can go.  Also, a good multi-vitamin should help too...

J don’t understand why they have put you on levo with that tsh level. Are your other levels out of range?

No. I’m gonna ask my doctor next week if he checked all the thyroid related levels

From what I believe, starting thyroid medication when you don’t need it can cause more problems. Ask him if your antibodies were tested?

5 years ago I suffered hair loss . My thyroid levels were in range but I had high anti bodies

My doctor wants me at tsh level 1

To see if i feel any better.

I’m pretty sure it’s something wrong with my thyroid. Because i’m growing hair on the edges of my eyebrows. That has not been there for years. It’s a typical thyroid sign

That's great, as that is where your TSH should be at, when on T4 replacement..

I’d definitely stick with that doctor. Some doctors refuse to go below 2

I just realized.. Why did I get the medication "Levothyroxine" If my doctor wanted my TSH level at 1 when my TSH level was 1.34? Doesn't Levothyroxine just increase the TSH number?

No, it reduces it. High TSH means you have low thyroid and vice versa. So increasing the medication should reduce your TSH. Get it?
