Lost In Alcoholism !

Oh well... here we go again.  Miserable as can be.  I am taking my medication, like a good angel... BUT... why am I still having "BLIPS"?  I have just "lost it".   Units, Schumits !!  Mega... lost it.  I had wine today... and more and more and more.   I am trying to beat the demon drink, but I think it may be a lost cause.  How can I still drink to excess, while taking Selincro/Nalmefene?  I thought things were improving ... when... glug, glug, glug, NOT IMPROVING.  Has anyone else been on this "roller coaster"?

I used to always have a book on the go and would panic when coming to the end of one if I didn't have another one ready.....that was about 5 years ago.

My problem with drinking on Nalmefene is the lunchtime drinking then the evening drinking.I think the pill might be wearing off in between

It covers you for 12 hours, so if you're drinking beyond that you may need to take another. How long have you been taking the Selincro?

Loosing track of how long now because I took naltrexone for about 2-3 weeks before the doctor gave me Nalmefene 2 weeks ago.Still drinking 1-2 bottles a day but better than the 3 I was originally drinking.

I need to take controle more but I'm so used to alcohol now that a bottle of wine just seems like a glass

Wow...Nicole...you hit the nail on the head saying a bottle..seems like a glass...just a little different when I drink...a whole bunch of bottles of beer seem like just a few...before I know it...they are gone...and I am going back to the store!

Try what Joanna posted about (see the link I posted for Alonangel), try it for only the first glass to begin with. You'll likely have to go at it a number of times before you get the full experience (whatever that experience may be for you). The automatic part of drinking turns a bottle into a glass, I know it well. What you're doing with this technique is to interrupt that process and get in the habit of letting your conscious mind watch the goings on. The automatic part of the mind kicks in as a coping mechanism and out comes the cork. Slow down the first glass and see if you can notice what you're trying to cope with. You may get a fuller experience of the wine too, so an added bonus there.

That being said, even considering the time on Naltrexone, you're still early in the process, so I'll offer a "well done" on cutting out that 3rd bottle! Keep it going, Nicole!

      Ain't it the truth!

I'd try to stick with a 6-pack of pints, more often than not I'd fold and go back to the store (only a block away on foot, thankfully).

Hi Vickylou.  I'm here too.  Insomniacs R Us !

I think the "sleep deprivation" is part of my crazy behaviour, at times.

      Another bad mix with Alcohol.

I'm glad you had a good holiday... with the control in place.  Brilliant.

    Hi

tell me more about yourself. You're not the only person who can't sleep!!!

I don't know how much you know about me from previous Posts.

I don't use my real name on this Forum, but I am an Alcoholic !

I am 60, but don't feel old.  I have several medical problems. I am using a lot of "I"s, again.  I have lapsed into self-pity.  I had to give up work some years ago because of poor health.  I hate being sick.  I can't get myself motivated to do anything... well apart from drink.  I always manage that.  I don't know me anymore. I think I am a Depressive Mess.

I'll understand if you would rather not chat with me... I am not very cheerful company.

      I am understanding.

I need to get a life.

      I wish I could sleep first !

I a. Here can't sleep is the worst. Keep trying but can't. It must be the best thing in the world to go to bed and sleep. Surely that's what normal people do?

Well, Vickylou, I have given up on normal.  I have had sleeping tablets, in the past... to try to re-set my body-clock.  Took them for a week... felt drugged, but slept.  Tablets finished... then wide awake all night, again.  I nearly described it as a nightmare, but I rarely sleep long enough to have one !

I can't remember normal sleep.  Do you take medications?  I often wonder about side-effects as I take various tablets.

I doze off for a while, in the morning.  Maybe I'm a closet vampire !

What a carry on.  Night after night.  If I didn't have this iPad, I'd be totally demented.  Sometimes I buy something, to pass the time.  Nocturnal Shopping Syndrome.

Anyway, sweet dreams if you do nod off... whenever.

Alonangel and Vickylou, I just ran across something called ASMR videos that looked interesting. You might google:

      ASMR videos for sleep

Don't know for sure, but it might be a good lead to check out.
