Lowish fibre diet

I have been suffering from diverticulitis for some time now, has anybody else found that a high fiber diet causes a flair up. The more fiber I have the more pain I have, goes against all the recommendations

In my experience, I have found the insoluble fiber is too painful to process, so I stick more to the soluble fiber. So far it's working.

Sorry to hear that Jane..I suffered my first acute flareup over 2 years ago and now am on my 4th occurrence needing meds.

I also seem to have a flareup induced by too much fiber and usually follow the liquids for a day then soft foods after protocol slowly easing back into soluble fiber. At this point though I am convinced my doctor is correct that my quality of life would be better if I opt for surgery..I am going to finish this course of ab's and then discuss this further with him.

There is much I have learned in regards to managing this disease on this site but I feel at this point, for my case anyway, surgery may be a viable solution. I can only hope.

I hope you feel well soon and may God bless you with peace and healing.

I have bought some of the soluble fibre capsules from Holland and Barrett and will give them a go. I will post an update on how I go on. I am hoping that cutting down on the insoluble fibre will help with the pain and I can avoid any more flare ups. Good luck with your surgery if you decide to go ahead with it.

My son's friend had the surgery done after the first year of suffering the flares and all the antibiotics anyways his diverticulsis came back even after the surgery he said he would never have the surgery again. I just wonder if once with this it just doesn't actually ever go away even with surgery.

Sorry to hear it did not work for him..like any surgery it does have it's risks and chances it won't resolve the issue you hope to. If I choose to have the surgery it will only be after a little more careful consideration and based on the fact that it does actually work out well for most..the success of these procedure I'm sure involve many factors.
