LPR/Silent Reflux - desperately in need of a miracle. Has anyone recovered from this?

Hi - I'll be as brief as possible. For almost a year I have had symptoms which have worsened, starting with throat clearing and progressing to regular spiting out of white, frothy stuff, post nasal drip, lump in throat or sharp sensation, streaming or blocked nose and hoarseness. These are all unpleasant and irritating but because I talk for a living my work is becoming badly affected so it is now making me depressed and anxious as well. I was referred to ENT, had the camera up the nose and down the throat to rule out anything sinister and was given Omeprazole and Gaviscon Advance. No advice, no explanation. I had to find it all out myself. (and I'm not confident/assertive with docs, either).

The drugs haven't helped, I'd go so far as to say the reflux significantly worsened. I had faith in the Gaviscon Advance having read how it works but that hasn't made any difference either. I have monitored everything I eat and drink and can't find anything that triggers it with the possible exception of bread, and I may be grasping at straws there. Certainly coffee, alcohol, spicy food etc don't trigger it and ginger, acidophillus, apple cider vinegar don't help. It does seem to be cyclical - I'll have a week or so of decreased symptoms then it gradally works up again to two or 3 weeks of hell. No heartburn, and the reflux is almost always upright, no problems sleeping...just the other 17 hours a day! The ENT was brusque on my return visit and said that, aside from speech therapy, there was nothing more he could do for me. This can't go on, though. At it's worst it makes me tearful and desperate at work and speech therapy isn't going to stop me spitting up into a whole toilet roll each day, or reduce the other symptoms. I'm also worried my teeth will rot and I fear for my job. Has anyone experienced this with the same pattern/lack of triggers etc? I would love to hear any positive experiences that don't just repeat the same old same old, ie, raise the bed 6 inches, dos and donts with food etc.

    Have been going through the same thing for last 17 years. Had a Cholecystectomy in 1999 and had to go on Prevacid right after. Only a few years later realized the Prevacid was not working and went to Aciphex. Spent the next 12 years jumping back and forth between all PPI'S known to man. The last two years the symptoms have gotten increasingly worse and the reflux into the mouth is unbearible as it is constantly destroying my tissues and has unbearable pain. Just waiting for the GI doc to tell me now I have throat cancer as well. That has not happened yet. I am trying to get get a Nissan treatment done ASAP but the surgeon is running me through every test he can think of first. Sorry but there is nothing positive about this post. Just have to hang in there and you might think about getting a second opinion.

      Ok, what is a Nissan Treatment?  And I have it worse as I have allergies bad too I guess.  I guess my splinkter isn't relaxing either so they want to put botox in there.  Im so bummed, it was going ok and now all of a sudden its 10 time worse in the last few days.  I stopped my zytec and started claritin and thought it was much better, but now the past 2 days I have been dying, post nasal drip really bad, and I have been going through saline like ha ha water.  I need to go to finish the second allergy test, but I am on meidcations for bipolar and I have to stop the pills at night for 3 nights before I take the test. And its terrible.  I went to do it the first time and I made it all the way to about 12 hours before the test and went into the hospital with pnhemoia and then had the first one day a month after that.  Then went to do the second one and ended up with pnhemonia again!!! 2 times and I frankly am afraid to try it again.  Anyway, apparently if you have allergies (oh and I was living in a mold infested a/c  apartment since April) and started all this crap in July!  Anyway, gastritius is one of the stomach issue and he has me on 40mg of Famotidine and wants me to take this other crap, but it messes me all up.  I can't take it within 2 hours of my meds for my head and then on top of that I have to take it an hour before I eat or 2-3 hours after I eat.  I take all this crap and can't remember my brain meds and I  NEED them.  They also say stress and anxiety are terrible for it.  So try and avoid that.  Not easy with this crap in your throat all the time for sure.  Well, I hope maybe you can see if you have allergies as they do make it worse.  Sorry, I know I was not much help, but thats worth a shot?

    Alex...did you find relief? I know you posted more than one year ago. I suffer from phlegm rising in my throats and think it may be LPR or silent relic. Like you I have no other problems. I sleep well etc. Also like you I am tired of the common raise your pillow change your diet responses ... have you found relief?

    Hi Alex,

    I know this post was from a long time ago but I have the same white frothy stuff every morning like it is stuck in the back of my throat and I spit it out- so gross. I also suffer from the lump in my throat from last April of 2016 after a upper endoscopy.  I have terribe health anxiety and every little pain I am thinking I have some kind of cancer. Right now I think I have lung cancer as I am hoarse in the mornings from the dry mouth and white stuff clearing my throat a lot and some pain in my chest on and off. I had 2 scopes down my throat and they said my throat was red and said it was silent reflex since I wasn't feeling any reflux - I tried the PPI's to no avail. Finally I found a throat specialist from John Hopkins- he was the most help to me this is what he said when he looked down my throat- your throat is not red! It is pink but I did have thick secretions in my thorat i.e. the white stuff like you have. This lump in throat and white stuff is most likely caused by 

    1. Dryness- do you wake up with a dry throat in the morning? use steam, saline spray, humidider

    2. Allergies

    3. Anxiety- lump in throat definitely can be made by anxiety- I already have valium for my anxiety

    4. GERD but not likely

    He said to go down the list and try each thing for about a month and see what gets better. He was the first doctor to actually give me some kind of answers. Just wondering how you are doing and if you still have that white gook.

    Did you ever get anything to work? I am sorta in the sane boat and I think my reflux has vapor as it burns my theist and back of my sinuses, omeprazole brought on the burning and made my situation worst and I take pepcid which sometimes gives relief I am so frustrated

    Hi I have been having symptoms of mucus in my voice box and post nasal drip I went to my ent and they prescribed antibiotics after 7 days I called them back and said there has been no change and they switched my antibiotics which I took for 5 days then I did research on line and I told them I think this maybe reflux so they gave me omeprazole 40 mg after 2 weeks I started to get this burning in my throat and back of my sinuses and it has not stopped since. I am going through a bunch of tests like restech ph and barium swallow and now they want another 24 impedance test so my question is does anyone have the burning in the throat and sinus and have you found something to cure that?

      Yes shelly, as per my PM - it stopped the burning in throat and chest as it released inflammation and blocked energy paths from inside and uses your body's intelligence to heal.

      Hi, I have just checked and my message to you says you  have  not read it yet, it was Kinesiology,  burning, pain in chest, throat, back, shoulder, it all disappeared after two days.  One treatment was 2 hours but that was it.

      Oh wow Gwen how did you find that service in your area? Do you know what type of reflux you have for sure? As I think I have some nonacidic reflux going on what ever help you can give me I would sure appreciate it thank you so much

      Mine has been confirmed after camera as: hiatal hernia, esophagitis, reflux, lpr.  The lot really.  Was given PPI but do not want to take them as dont like the fact that once you stop you are worse off.  Asked doc for Zantac instead, I take 150 am and pm plus mastic gum before bed.  This helped quite a lot but probs were still there, especially when I developed a chemical resistance where any chemical smell absolutely killed my chest and throat immediately and lasted for hours.  I started googling and decided to have a go at kinesiology which said it could hellp with loads of ailments including digestive probs.  I booked a sesh and it worked.  She said she was absolutely sure she could help me and that she had helped many others in the same situation.  It sure did. That was just over 2 months ago and the best £35 I have ever spent.  I have abused myself over Xmas and I can feel it returning, so I will book her again.

      Hi Gwen thank you I am going to find out about it in my area, I am desperate and willing to try anything. Like you I am afraid of ppi meds and I know I have some non acid reflux too as I feel the vapors I need help badly

      Was yours a chiropractor? Only ones in my area seem to be by them.

      Hi Gwen, I had a little camera through my nose down to my throat which confirmed swelling behind my voicebox.  Did you have the camera that goes down your stomach? I think that's what I need to do next. Is that the endoscopy you had? I've had reflux I'm certain for years, tight chest, post nasal drip, sore throat, constant mucus in throat, clearing of throat for 2 yeras and also the chemical resistance to any little bit of smoke or chemicals that will kill my chest for a couple of days.  My throat now swells and hurts when I swallow.  Did you have the swelling in your throat?       Yes I all that you have mentioned but this Kine treatment got rid.  No more chemical sesitivity, I now use hair laquer again.  Yes I had endoscopy to confirm what I had.  G.

      Thanks for your response! I'm so sick of this condition.  What is Kine treatment please? I'm going to go see my doc to book endoscopy to confirm issues.

      Sorry for delay - laptop been down - I went to a Kinesiologist - cost me £35 for over two hours - best I have ever spent.  Still am relieved at no pain in my chest and throat nor back or shoulders.  Still have heartburn but only when I am bad with my diet (wine).

      I have zero "heartburn" but all the signs of LPR aka silent heartburn. Are you dealing with typical heartburn or LPR.
