LS related to Thyroid issue

I have been seeing a dermatologist for my LS, and he said that there's confusion over whether it's an autoimmune disorder or not. My gynecologist thought it was related to psoriasis, but the dermatologist has been involved in researching it and found it's more related to thyroid issues. He gave me a requisition for blood tests, and sure enough, I'm now on Synthroid. I asked my pharmacist to check and see how many LS patients on clobetasol also take synthroid, and he was surprised that so many are.

So... I thought I'd share that. My LS was quite severe 2 years ago but I have it under control and have only 2 minor flare ups since I was diagnosed.

Interesting. I had worse LS when my thyroid numbers were better. Is he talking allopathic ranges or functional ranges? Functional doctors want T3 in the top 1/4 of the range, and T4 in tbe middle. TSH must up to 1.5-2.

    Hi,

Yes, I also have hypothyroidism and LS. I'm pretty sure when I suddenly stopped taking estrogen in pill form for the menopause, that didn't help either and may also have contributed to it. It was during the time they said taking them was dangerous.

That is very interesting and I will my doctor if i can get blood work done. I started getting the itch ans was diagnosed when I was pregnant with my son. I was told I was too you g for this and was torn into pieces after learning this terrible disease.

May i ask how you controlled it and only had two minor flare ups in the last 2 years? I feel like im having some kind of tingle/itch every month or so. Im new with knowing the symptoms and its hard to understand and control it.

What are you flare ups like when they were severe? what is considered a minor flare up? how did you treat it? Is your LS on it exterior or where the vestibule is? sorry for asking all these questions. Im struggling and i cant get answers with my doctor due to covid. I hope you can shed some light. LS is really stressing me and it gives me so much anxiety when i think i have a flare up but not sure how to tell if it is. Thank you for taking the time to read this 😃

I had a hysterectomy when i was 32. Before my hysterectomy i was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. One year later i thought i had a yeast infection, i could only be so lucky, had a biopsy and it was LS. I feel its definitely related seeing they are both autoimmune diseases. Im now 55 and i have flare ups but for the most part its under control. I use Clob and coconut oil.

Did you have any symptoms with your thyroid? I don't, but I am contemplating getting thyroid tests when I can get back to see my GP and am surprised we are not all offered them once diagnosed with LS when there does seem to be a link. And I thought LS HAD been confirmed as an autoimmune disease? My dermatologist believes it to be, so I have been believing that I have a compromised immune system which could make contracting Covid more serious and have been very wary during this time. So many conflicting theories by different doctors which is confusing.

sarb, I believe it has been added to the list of AI diseases. I don't think dermatologists would be prescribing Tacrolimus if it weren't. I insisted on getting the TSH test on top of the basic annual blood panel. Conclusion: I have no thyroid problems. So ultimately I'm not sure what this tells us if some people with thyroid problems get LS and some don't.

I think our age, weight and major AI diseases are bigger factors than anything when it comes to having serious repercussions from COVID.

That being said I have had to go for shots after having mosquito bites, wasps stings and mystery bites so I definitely have something strange going on with histamine overreactions. Not sure if that would have an impact with this virus.

Beverly - yes, LS must be an AI disease I think. Interesting what you say about histamine reactions. Recently I have had allergic reactions to something in the garden which makes my eyelids swell and itch really badly. Then the skin dries and flakes. Hydrocortisone is the only thing that helps. I have never had anything like this before. I wonder whether it is because my immune system is overreacting to an irritant.

I've had over the top reactions to insect bites since I can remember. I just wonder if having that level of histamine reaction is connected in any way to immune overreactions. I may be confusing 2 different systems.

As I've gotten older I've developed allergies to trees and flowers which is very frustrating for me as I love anything that grows outdoors. My eyes itch to the point I can't focus and require constant drops. I take allergy pills every day now.

No flaking skin though. Are you putting the hydrocortisone on your eyes? Is that a good idea?

It is confusing I agree, but I am with you that over the top histamine reaction could be connected to immune system overreaction.

My GP prescribed the hydrocortisone with instructions to apply very little. I don't like doing it but it is the only thing that works. It has only happened 3 times over last 2 years so far. I wear sunglasses whilst gardening now.

This is so weird - since being diagnosed with LS (May 19) my hayfever has reduced by 80% !

I've given up Alcohol in order to reduce sugar but I have recently heard alcohol can be a histamine producer and water is good for lowering histamine which I am obviously drinking a lot more of - no thyroid issues.

I think I'm drinking as much water as I can without having to wear Depends!

Can't say allergies have done anything but increase, but that seems to have come with age. Difficult to parse out which causes what. It probably wouldn't hurt for me to read just how histamines work, but the news has taken over any and all reading between the virus and the political situation in the US.
