Lump on big toe joint after gout

Posted , 9 users are following.

I am 36 yo and had massive gout attack just before New Year, i had 4-5 attacks over the past 5 years but this one was the longest and most painful.

I was taking painkillers and indomethacin and it managed to get rid of it after 2 weeks of pain and misery, however, there is lump left on my big toe joint where attack happened and i can not bend my big toe all the way like i can on my other foot.

I felt pain and gout didn't completely disappear.

I went to dr and he gave me prednisolone to take for 3 days and colchine (which i didnt take btw as there no pain per se) only when i press that bump feels kinda painfull.

I finished with 3 days of prednisolone and while it helped a bit the lump is still there and i can say that my big toe joint doesn't feel as healthy as the other one, its like 80% ok but not quite there and i always feel like it can get nasty

I am a bit worried about this, what can it be? it is definitely not normal compared to my other foot, What can i do to fix this, x-rays, medicine...

Im thinking of going back to my dr and tell him that meds didn't quite fix the problem but i would like to hear from people here who had this issue.

Thanks

I

Taking high potency Bromelain (GDU 1800 or more) will help dissolve the urate crystals. Bromelain dissolves urate - this is what many doctors won't tell you. Bromelain is as useful as colchichine for gout in my opinion, and really helps with gout related joint pain. Others on this forum have agreed with my statements.

How long do I need to keep taking Bromelain to get rid of lump?

I still get slight pain  in and around joint, its subtle and intermittent..im thinking it COULD be related to undissolved crystals. No pain in the other foot whatsoever

I experience relief in days, at most a week., taking it 3X/day. The consideration with Bromelain is its pineapple enzyme, and if you take with a lot of food, it reduces its effectiveness, so better to take with not a full stomach.

I can't say the exact time as I don't know how big it is, I've never had a big lump, but all of the pains that I've had go away within a day. I hope this helps.

    Hi David,

I am experiencing the same discomfort as you with the lump on the side of my big toe after a gout attack.  It's been 9 weeks and the lump has not gone away.  My toe felt as if it was 100% after a cortisone shot, however that has worn off.  How long did it take your lump to reduce in size?  Did it reduce after you took Allopurinol?  Did you get more gout attacks after taking Allopurinol?

My doctor prescribe it to me with 100mg tablets twice a day.  I've read and watched that Allopurinol will most likely give gout attacks.  My issue is that I don't have anymore days off from work.  My last gout attack prevented me from working for 3 weeks.  I also just purchased the Bromelain extract, but not sure how well it'll work to dissolve the possible tophi.

    Thank you.

I was fine after taking Allopurinol, didnt give me attacks but my issue is that hasnt disolved crystals.

I read some people died after taking Allopurinol so im on break from it now, these drugs fix one thing and create new issues

I take only Bromelain GDU 2000, which is the most potent that I can find. For most gout pain, it goes away within an hour of taking it.

You keep taking Bromelain every day as a preventative measure or only when you feel attack is coming?

It can prevent an attack when you feel it starting or reduce its severity.

Hey guys, wondering if anyone has tried or considered CBD Oil or THC? I'm not a user myself, I'm definitely considering it though. I've been dealing with a gout attack in my knee for almost a month now! Tried Indomethacin first, then Celecoxib & Prednisone, also Colchicine. Dr. has me just taking Prednisone now. The pain is ridiculous and can't get around without a cane. Sure is getting old and missing this much working is starting to take a toll as well. Thanks.
