Lump on neck

Ok so a few days ago I noticed the right side of my neck has this lump. Its not protruding and noticable but when I rub my fingers on it I can feel a slight lump or raised area. Its kinda on the sternocleodemastoid muscle in the neck. I don't feel anything like that on the left side. I was thinking that it could be a knot/tight muscle.

It's kinda in the area where the side of the neck meets the backs of the neck.

I'm really freaking out and my HA is making it worse, because I'm thinking what if it's cancer or somthing. I know this guy who had thyroid cancer and his neck was getting bigger. My neck is relatively small and it still looks the same size.

Also I noticed it a few days ago, when I woke up that morning I was sleeping on that side and my neck was in a weird position. That's when I discovered the lump/knot/tightness but I feel like what if it was there before and I hadn't noticed.

Hi there can you provide an explanation where it is ? In more detail.

Okay so imagine your neck is a box it's like right at the angle where the side of your neck meets the back of your neck. The size of the lump is like a small avocado in a oval shape, but the oval is horizontal

I really dont know if any of this makes sense.

It does sound like a cyst I have one on my back not far from my neck and shoulder area

    Is it painfull?

Could it be a cyst ?

If your under a great deal of stress it sound like a knotted muscle. You need a good massage.☺

It seems a little sore or tight, but it's not debilitating. I tried massaging it but it's not letting up. The hardness of it is comparable to clay

I think if its bothering you this much, you really need a Docs opinion.

Have you tried putting ice on it to take any swelling down?

I tried a heating pad, but I'll try the ice

I have been stressing lately...money, health, house, unruly customers at work, and this just adds on. I have really bad HA so everything about my body stressed me out...but I didn't think stress could cause this knot/lump

HI WorryBunny.I have same cancer issues everytime I get a pimple starting.I have felt this way for so long that I just feel the worry a bit but once I keep checking it ,it only gets worse. Now it has amounted to nothing so many times I just say oh well.Looks like I am about to die again, and seem to be able to push these worries away with humor.Funny , though even still after all these years I still actually feel at first that it is serious. If it is a muscle knot take one finger and apply a bit of pressure, then move it in a circular pattern and see if you can massage it out.

      Thank you for your advice

I'm trying not to stress it because cancer doesn't run in the family, but then again who knows I could be the first.

Also about 6 months ago I had a physical and multiple blood work done for some other problem but everything was in normal levels or a little below. I still feel all that was very recent so I'm hoping nothing changed within that time period.

I also try to blow the irrational thoughts out because I noticed the lump/knot after I had slept in a weird position that morning.

I'll try to use a heating pad to relax the muscle and massage it out. Thnx

Does it happened to be below your ear or to the side of it?Could be a swollen lymph node.

So location wise, think about the distance between the base of the skull to the shoulder , it's right in the middle.

But more towards the back of the neck than the front.

Id bet on a tight muscle or a sebaceous cyst.If it is a cyst they usually arent anything to worry about, ive had mine for years. If its still there in a week get it looked at so you dont have to worry anymore.xx

Years ago i had a small lump right behind my right ear but at the top at the back of my neck.It freaked me out,so I kept rubbing it which later made it hurt and sore to touch. This is because of my touching and rubbing it.I went to the doctor and it was an irritated lymph node.It took about 3 weeks with leaveing it alone for it to go away.Id advise quit touching it.Maybe put a compress on it.Good luck at the doctors.let us know what they sayXx
