Lymph node pain

how long did everyone have lymph node pain? I've been having stabbing/weird pains in my throat, armpit and groin lymph nodes for at least 6 weeks now. I do have swollen lymph nodes also. I am so stressed and depressed because of all this. it goes away for a few days then comes back. I'm waiting for blood test results for Cmv and EBV but until then I can't help but feel like there's something way worse wrong with me 😦 my lymph nodes didn't swell until a few weeks into this and I feel like everyone else's did straight away which makes me stress even more that maybe it is something worse 😦

I wish you a speedy recovery! I have a 5 year old. My son lived with my mother for 2 months while I recovered. I barely made it through his birthday. Good luck.

I am 34. My tonsils were removed as a child. I was first hit with the symptoms of mono first week of this January.

Thank you. I'm 32 and also had my tonsils removed as a child. maybe that explains the lack of a sore throat for us. What were your first symptoms? I am so anxious 😦 I have a doctors appointment tomorrow morning to get my results and I'm really HOPING it's positive.

so I have a doctors appointment in an hour and they just called to say the doctor is having car troubles so my appointment is cancelled 😦 guess I won't have an answer today. over it. this has been the hardest time of my life. I have been in 2 comas for 8 days each from asthma and I still didn't feel as bad as I do now.

hey everyone. so I went to the doctor and got my results. tests indicate past infection for epstein barr virus and also cmv. not positive for current infection. I'd be interested to know other peoples test results as now I'm scared it wasn't ebv 😦

what else have they run tests on? the infection could have been active since symotoms started and are now inactive. in general (with most viruses) our symptoms as caused by the immune system responding to an infection, they infection doesnt cause it. so its not uncommon for an infection to not be present anymore but the body comtinues to react to it until it makes sure its really gone.
i would look into adaptogen supplements and take one that u think will work for u? i like ashwaghanda and wobenzym n. adaptogens helps your body react better to stress (a virus counts as stress) and to stop inflammation (which is what causes typical synptoms) when theyre not actually needed.
also unhappiness and stress release adrenaline / cortisol into your body which can also cause a multitude of symptoms over time so each day try and take some time to yourself to relax. maybe even try and take a mini trip away to stay in a spa or hotel even if just for 1 night.
i only started to grt better from feeling ill (not mono related) when i did that.
i had mono years ago but the extreme fatigue and night sweats came back some years later after a common cold. but i was severley stressed so i think it just made my body try to protect itself with the same symptoms i had when i was sickest (which was when i had mono)
eventually all these symptoms will go away. if the dr thought u might have something else they probably would have tested for it. i say give it a month and if youre not improved at all by then then investigate further. even if u had something worse, leaving it a month will make no difference . considering serious diseases can take years to develop.
i would only persist in persuing further with the dr right now if ur symptoms were obviously getting much worse and quickly.
what did ur dr suggest?

Hi Sam,
I'm sorry to hear that the blood test results didn't give a more definitive answer, I am also getting some blood tests done this week and the waiting on these is an apprehensive time for sure, you just want so much for a breakthrough and something to put your mind at rest and it's so hard when you don't get that I know.
I don't have a full understanding of how the blood tests for mono work, but I do know that it is possible that even with a past infection showing that it can still mean that you are in that phase going through or recovering from EBV or CMV. Often if you don't get the blood test done in that first number of weeks when feeling unwell, I think after that it can just show a past infection in the blood tests, even though you are still very much in the grips of feeling unwell and experiencing all the symptoms (of course if anyone with a better understanding of blood test results can shed more light that would be a great help).
The fact also that you tested positive for past infection of EBV and CMV certainly seems to make it more likely that one of thse could have been recently, I don't know if they can tell from blood tests how recent the past infection has been? Again, something I hope someone with good medical knowledge can advise on here on the forum, it would be a great help.
Please hang in there Sam, it sounds like this has been such an awful and worrying time for you, I just want you to know that I'm thinking about you and I still truly believe that with a little more time you are going to get back to full health again - things are going to improve, truly they are - if I remember rightly I tested positive for mono at the end of October when I was unwell with it, but by my next blood test in January it just showed a past infection, or normal again, even though I was still feeling so unwell with it - so hang in there and remember things take time with these types of viruses but that you will make a full recovery - whether it is mono or something similar - thinking about you 'hugs'.

Remember too Sam that taking vitamins and herbs / supplements can help too - I know I mention it a lot on the forum posts but let me know if you want me to list the ones that helped me again and I can.

Hi Craig,
Hope all is well with you & hoping for positive news with your upcoming blood test results. I've said this before but you're a lovely person helping people on this forum when they need it most, despite you having your own concerns.
Take care

Hi Sam, I'm not a doctor but the fact you are feeling better than you were has to be a positive thing.
My initial glandular fever screen was negative & then 2 weeks later it was positive so I think the results can change relatively quickly.
Hope your further tests go well, thinking of you.

Hi Sam,
I noticed the first one about a month into the virus, it was painless initially & then became painful about 2 months later. I had an ultrasound on it & was told it was benign & reactive.
Then 4 months later I visited an ENT as I had white tonsils (despite not having a sore throat with mono) & was told then that I had multiple swollen neck glands (I hadn't noticed them) I also found the area around my groin was painful around the same time & had a swollen gland there too.
Hope the x ray goes well x

Thank you Gill.
I had the x-ray yesterday and will get the results on Monday. I am terrified. struggling to keep it together at the moment. all my symptoms seem to be the same as others on this forum but the ebv test was positive for past infection which makes me really scared. my ex has similar symptoms to me though so I really don't know 😦 will keep you updated x

Thinking of you Sam. These swollen glands & tiredness may well be lingering symptoms from mono, mine lasted for months after the acute infection.
Hoping for positive news for you tomorrow xx

Thank you Craig, hope your results were ok & that your headache has passed.
I am feeling much better now & have been for a while thankfully. The tiredness & painful glands have gone & I feel like I did before I got mono. So grateful for this as it was a truly horrendous experience as you can prob relate to with having it yourself in the past.
Hope you are doing ok.

Thank you Gill.
I would be lying if I said I wasn't terrified. I will update everyone once I have been to the doctor. I will probably make a new post. The worrying thing is that lymph nodes are still popping up. I only had 1 in my groin but another popped up a couple of days ago. I just don't understand why they are coming up now when all the other symptoms have gone. it's a really scary thing 😦 x

So pleased to hear that you have been doing much better Gill, that is great news. And you will continue to get stronger as time goes on, I found that too - after 2 years I was stronger and felt more 'normal' than 1 year, and so on.
Thanks for thinking about me and for your kind wishes too - thankfully my blood tests didn't show anything too bad, a few things out with normal ranges but the doctor didn't think it was anything too bad. Still getting headache going back to see the doctor today, hoping this can settle and thanks for all your kindness Gill - you are a blessing to the forum!

Hope that you get on okay at the doctors Sam, let us know how things go and it's only understandable to be concerned about these things - but remember too that it is a VERY common occurence during mono to have all sorts of painful / swollen lymph nodes, and that mono or a similar type virus is by far the most likely explanation by the sounds of it.
Let us know how things go Sam and hang in there.
