magnesium

Hi everyone, just a quick question. What are the best supplement s to take. I've heard people recommending magnesium for one but remember that a higher dose was mentioned. I've been taking b12 on prescription for a while now along with a million other things but have decided to go down the more natural route as not feeling much better with current meds. I'm planning a hol in the sun soon and need to get some extra energy from somewhere.

The main reason I am looking to cut out the meds and go natural is that I'm already taking regular meds for epilepsy.. This medication makes me exhausted without all the problems caused by meds for fibromyalgia. Have tried various things so am now aiming for natural sups and sunshine. Going to lay on a lounger for 3 weeks and hoping it perks me up, am a little nervous as traveling alone.

yes i would be to . have you looked in to the keogentic [high protein] diet for eplespy it was used only for children at the begining but some new research has shown hopeful results in some adults. just thought you might be interested in knowing about it if you dont no already

Went on a ketone diet many years ago and felt brilliant on it (and lost weight) didn't stay on it long as was being nagged by family that it was unhealthy. Am going to try it again as it suited my eating habits. I know it is used for children with epilepsy but was led to believe it was unhealthy for adults. It can raise blood pressure etc initially but apparently this drops after being on it for a few weeks. Think I'll get some books on it and give it another go.

Marshall and Michelle, my daughter has epilepsy and I have fibro. My other daughetr has ME. I have no scientific proof but from what I have read I believe that magnesium deficiency relates to many different central nervous system disorders. You may find that if magnesium helps your fibro it may also help your seizures.

I take Boots Magnesium with calcium and vitamin D at twice the recommended RDA. You can't overdose on it as your body tells you you've had too much via diarrhoea. I also take regular Epsom Salts baths (Epsom Salts is magnesium sulphate) I take a double dose of valerian to help me sleep.

Magnesium, in whatever form, takes a while to build up in your system - in my case a couple of months. I have been fortunate in that it has worked for me with significant reduction in pain and stiffness. I also take some root ginger and Boots general vitamin tablet and vitamin B at recommended levels.

The valerian for sleep helps as does keeping a water bottle by my bed for a drink. If the pain still does get bad, I take naproxen which is fairly good.

    Hi Michelle,

I am hoping magnesium works. I found the reciepe for making magnesium oil and I am trying it for the first time tonight. Does anyone know how long it takes to work.?

I have read that magnesium is better as a topical application rather then taken internally.

are you using seabed magneisum flakes.

its like a lot of things you need time for it to build up in your system

at least 3 months for help with the fatigue .

but you will get pain relief almost straight away and if you use it on your limbs before bed you will sleep well . iv also found that lavender essential oil helps you sleep really well.razz

I think so. I know it is magneisum chloride flakes. I did not notice any reduction in pain yet. Today worst in a long time. Maybe due to going out for most of the day yesterday and I am usualy housebound. I will keep trying though.

I dont have any trouble sleeping, staying awake is my usual problem.

I am really hoping this magneisum works. I have had fibro most of my life and was diagnosed 2010. I had a heart attack  and my Fibro pain went to 0 after 15mths my fibro is returning. I may have been  treated in hospital with high doses of magneisum to stabilize the electrical system of the heart. I am really hoping this is what caused the improvement and that the mag oil will bring my fibro pain back to 0. I try to talk to Drs regarding this but they just ignor me.

of course they will ,your heart is a muscle hun if it helps your heart why would it not help your other muscles , if i was you i cant because it upsets my stomach i would take it as a supplement as well

, if you can get in a bath you could also buy the mag flakes and soak in it as well as applying it to the skin.it works for pain really well by relaxing the muscles and any twitching will stop in a few days .

i am a big believer init ,i also apply it under my arms to help get it into my system this why it will replenish supplies depleated in the body .as i cant take the tablet form .does sting a bit but it soon wears off ,

      good luck .eek

      Hi Gloria,

Not sure how long you've had fibro for. Good luck with the oil manufacturing Lol. hope it goes well. I know it might sound realy stupid but i've been taking magnesium for two days (double ) and i feel a lot more positive in myself today.still have the aches and pains but i feel more alive and more like the old me. Still sleeping too much but at least i feel like doing more. (even if i cant it's a big bonus to me to feel that i want to try) I've already been on the phone today and argued with a dodgy company who had taken £180 out of my account for a trial diet supplement that i foolishly sent for on line. Won't be doing that again!!!!!!! Never recieved the product either. They then took it into there heads to take the monthly payments for the full product.!!!!!!!

I wont be climbing everest soon but i do feel more positive today. Tried in Sainsburys for the oil but they dont sell it. so will have to settle for the tablets till i can get it. Had a bit of a pasteing yesterday as i had to go for a pip assessment! I live in hope. I've heard people saying it can take up to three months but here's hoping.Has anyone heard from someone who hasnt had any benefit from magnesium because i only seem to hear positives?
