Mattress toppers

This may sound trivial, but being an insomniac anyway managing to sleep on my back after the op is one of the things I'm really worrying about. I've been looking at mattress toppers and wondered if anyone else had bought one and if it helped. I know I'll just have to suck up and put up, but nevertheless I'm trying to think of things to make me more comfortable. I use a 'v' pillow and have bought extra pillows for my knees, feet and wherever else I might need them. I've read through the discussions on here about sleeping but wondering whether to buy a mattress topper or not. Quite expensive if it's not going to be helpful.
Happy New Year to you all xxx

which stops me getting cramp.
I find a cushion- sized pillow best for between the legs.
At the beginning I had a pillow each side of my body, which lifted
the bedclothes slightly and kept me snug in a little box.
I also take half a 1 mg lorenin to sleep.

I use a memory foam mattress topper BUT ALSO I lie on top of a duvet.
Then I have another lightish duvet on top of me.
At the moment I am sleeping half the night on my side (unoperated) with a pillow to support operated knee and thigh. Then about 2-3am I transfer to lying on my back with the pillow behind knees. This does seem to work for me but I am 3 months post op now.Hope this helps.

But after the op, when forbidden to side sleep for 6 weeks, it became a real problem. I slept sitting up for 6 weeks, propped up in bed with lots of pillows. I sent my sister out to get me an expensive mattress topper after about a week, and, while it helped enormously to make me more comfortable when sitting up in bed, I'm not sure I got more sleep because of it. Probably had 5 hours a night, interrupted, for those 6 weeks. (Only got an hour or two a night at the hospital.) Always took a short nap or two during the day, still sitting up, of course. Now that I am side-sleeping again, I am loving the topper because I am so much more comfortable and sleeping very well again.
Bottom line, do everything you can think of beforehand that might help you sleep better post-op.

I also ordered a full length 'v' plllow just because. Christmas vouchers spent now and if I'm more comfortable it'll be well worth it

Whilst in hospital I slept with the back of the bed elevated which helped hugely when it came to sleeping, so I tried to re-create it at home. I put some big cushions under the mattress to prop it up and with that and a pillow under my legs, I slept better than I thought I would.
I too am not the greatest sleeper and that has continued. I always have a book on the go and have found it to be a saviour at 2 am.
Really good luck and I hope all goes well for you.
