Medication Side Effects

Posted , 10 users are following.

I just want to do a litte post to see if you guys check on your medication after the doctor give you them.  The side effects listed goes on and on.  Some are on the list but sometime come up after you start taking them.  That is what happen to me.  One of the meds that the doctor gave me for my Pheumonia gave me retro.  I'm kinda mad  I throught the only pills that do that doctor give you are for our urinary problems.  The med she gave me is Levofloxacin 500MG.  This medication is use for bacterial infection of the skin, sinues, kidney, bladder and the prostate.  I only have to take 2 more pills.  I hope things go back to normal.  I know some men don't care about retro but some do.  So please check any meds you get from you doctor and any side effects that you get.   Talk with your doctor about any concerns that come up.  Take care of your life and be careful.  Good health to you all.  Ken

Hi Ken , sorry to read that you are suffering from pneumonia.  Some meds are licenced to treat several conditions not just one. They have a range of side effects that may not relate to the condition they are prescribed for as in you chest med causing retrograde ejaculation. He/she may have been able to prescribe a different drug for your chest problem but the one you are using may be the best for your illness. Sometimes we just have to put up with the unwanted effect as well as the beneficial ones. In the Uk there are guidelines in prescribing issued by NICE. Mostly I believe our doctors do their best and do try to prescribe the best meds for our condition. When we are takling several meds it is almost impossible to predict side effects from this cocktail. Best to report any side effects not listed to enable your doc to adjust his/her script.

Hope you are soon feeling well ken, pneumonia on top of your other probs not nice

Just missed this bit out of my post. most of us on this forum in the UK can get a free flu jab. Our surgery offer a free pneumonia jab as well, its supposed to be a protection for life. Might be worth asking if you could get this next time at the surgery.

    Good health to you all

Thanks Philip.  Yes found that out.  I only have one pill more to take later and I will be off that one.  I can wait a week to get bake to normal. If it will help me to get rid of the pneumonia.  Never get the flu shot but I got the pneumonia shot 3 years ago.  I guess it was not the bug that I got.  The one I got was suppose to take care of 23 germs.  But I guess there are more then we know Take care and have a good holiday  Ken

Hi Kenneth. Check my meds? I sure do. I have found that doctors can be very cavalier about what they prescribe. For example, I used to suffer from atrial fibrillation. The heart specialist I was seeing prescribed me this drug called amiodorone. I googled it and found this ....".Amiodorone is a drug of last resort. It can cause fibrosis of the lung which is always fatal. Patients taking this should always have a chest X ray to to check for fibrosis."

The specialist never mentioned any of this to me...unforgivable in my view. Anyway, I immediately stopped taking it and armed with a copy of what I had found, I went to see my GP. He ordered an X Ray and they found no fibrosis but two patches in both lungs that turned out to be Lymohoma.

So in this case it turned out to be a happy accident as they found my lymohoma early....I had three months of chemo 6 years ago and am as good as gold. Atrial fibrillation is also fixed by a process called catheter heart ablation and my BPH is fixed by PAE.

Guys, ALWAYS check what your doctor tells you or prescribes for you. If you are in this site I guess you are already doing that,

    Cheers

Yes I do try to check on any meds I get but I did not think anything for pneumonia would cause retro.  It's not in the same area.  I had a  6 hour Catheter Abilation done November 28th, 2016 so I think my heart is good off all of meds and I had a urolift  so I think I'm good for awhile. Been in the hospital 9 times to year.  I'm done I hope.  Take care and thanks Ken

So glad to be off Flomax!!  After my Urolift doc said I didn't need Flomax anymore.  More sex drive for sure but also able to ejaculate like a teenager again...much more quantity of ejaculate and could shoot it out not dribble it out.  Not as far as a teenager but it sure felt more normal.  Urologist forgot to warn me that Flomax also helps reduce blood pressure so when I got off it my blood pressure shot up....I finally remembered that and told my regular doc and she Rx'd a replacement to bring my blood pressure back into safe range.
