Medications and Therapies....

Hi All.... :fairy:

I have had many different pain killers and therapies over the years and was wondering what works for others...???????

Medications that work best for me at the moment to reduce headaches and muscle spasms are Mersyndol Forte and for the spasms, Valium. I'm not happy about the amount of meds i use on a daily basis and tend to put up with pain for as long as i can before i take something..... But compared to a few months ago, i'm taking less meds!!! For a while after my re injury at work, i was in tears daily from the pain....I am usually a toughy with pain, but i was pushed beyond my boundaries... :steam: My Doc had me on Norspan (Morphine) patches that are slow release...first i was on 5 micrograms then upped to 10..... It definitely helped with the neck pain, but not so much with the headaches...It eventually (after about 6 weeks) caused me to have a severe migraine for 2 weeks before we figured out it was the patch causing the migraine...hard to tell when i do get migraines often!!!!! :yuk:

I have also had a lot of relief from having regular Myotherapy (Deep tissue massage) I have been seeing my Myotherapist on and off for about 4 years now and she knows what works for me and what doesn't....she always gives me a head massage in my session which is a great release of pain up the back of my head!!!!!! Unfortunately because my injury is Workcover, they decided to STOP my Myotherapy...I have 2 more sessions to go..... :wah: I can't afford to pay for it myself due to being on such a reduced wage now, BUT...I am fighting their decision to stop it as it helps!!!

I also use a wheat bag/ heat pack on my neck when it is too sore or spasming.

Can anyone else tell me their best therapies or Meds that help????

Thanks for reading......Jas..xx.. :wings:

Hiya Gaza...Welcome to our little forum..... :D

Have you had an MRI scan...???? If so which discs are affected????? This helps to determine which areas of your body can be affected..... I get the terrible headaches...they never go away for me, just sometimes they are bareable and other times not!!!!

I have found getting the right pillow can help a lot with pain during the night..(says me who is awake at 4.30am today with pain... ) I have a water pillow and that has helped me with headaches during the night a lot!! Others here use a memory foam pillow i think....Have a look around in this forum, there is lots of info on different issues we have to deal with having CS.

Take gentle care of yourself....Jas..xx.. :wings:

    hello again,

i am waiting for an appointment with the neurosurgeon , which i hope wont take long.

I had a look at my meds and ive got TAMADOL , diclofenac and cocomodol.

Ill look into getting a better pillow and see if it helps me thanks.

You have my sympathy if you have the headaches all the time , i dont know how i would cope with that.

hello gazza, welcome to our little world. when you have seen the neurosurgeon, hopefully he will refer you for a mri, and then you should know what is affected, and where. i am due for my appointment to see a second neurosurgeon in 13 yrs, in the next couple of weeks, and i am hoping that i am sent for another mri, because things are getting worse,. i have headaches which i never had and are getting more frequent. many of our fellow sufferers have such awful headaches, mine are mild in comparison. mine at the moment make me sleep until they have eased, which pain does to me anyway, the more pain i get the more i sleep. i am on oxycontin 40mg a day which is strong. i have been on tramadol a long time ago, but i have progressed to much stronger meds. i wish you luck on your appointment, keep us all informed. chris

I wanted to ask if anyone has taken or takes Tramadol (Tramal) for their pain..????

My Doc prescribed it for me a week or so ago...just for when i have very bad pain...well, today I have!!!!!! :bruised: I took a 50mg tablet earlier this evening....and well, its done absolutely NOTHING for my pain...... :yikes: I have just done a bit of reading around on the net and found that 50mg is quite a low dose, but i'm not game to take anymore than 1 tablet which is what my Doc prescribed.......Hmmmmm....what to do..... It also can interfere with anti depressants and I am on them.....but not everyone gets a reaction to it, so I figured it was worth trying if it helped the pain a bit.....

It's frustrating when a drug doesn't work....I'm not even asking for a lot....Just to reduce the pain to a level I can cope with!!!!!!!!!

I guess I should be grateful that yesterday was a bearable pain day....

*HUGS* for everyone who needs them.....Jas..xx..[/quote:2a2ad35fe1]

Can the boring mousy one butt in  8)

Yeah, I took tramadol, but can't remember what doage I took, they kind of zonked me and helped a lickle if my memory serves me well (ha!)

I take Amitriptyline for pain Jas they do help me, might be worth having a word with your doc. Do you have a pain clinic over there in Oz?

If any anti-infammatory drugs are ever taken you should take another tablet to protect your tummy, such as Ranitidine.

Also ( I'' llshut up in a mo)  According the the ION the single biggest cause of headaches is medication overuse headache.

    Hope this helps Jas

Hi Jas. I generally have co-dydramol 2 tabs up to 4 times a day, but always taken with 150mg Amitryptiline and two Ranitidine at bedtime.. It takes a couple of hours to kick in, but otherwise, I just don't go to sleep. My neck is rigid most of the time and when the pain gets too bad I take painkillers and use a heated pad for an hour or so. Kaytee.

Hello Jas, Chris, Em. Lou, and Gaz. Just wanted to put in my tuppence worth about TRAMADOL. I once was prescribed this, don't know the dosage, but was advised to take two when required for severe pain. WOW, WOW. I did worry about taking two so took one (capsule) and when there was no reaction within the hour, I took another one. Within 15 minutes I took a serious reaction. Anaphylaxic shock, whew, I keep well away from Tramadol, though it is still the painkiller of choice in emergencies, I must advise anyone who is evaluating my pain control.

Recently I have managed to keep things under control with an extra Dihydrocodeine at bed time.

By the way, how are you all? Kaytee.
