Menieres, migraine and constant dizziness/wooziness

Hi all again, sorry for posting all the time. I really am losing my mind with the constant dizziness. I had a CT scan today to rule out some other conditions, ended up going into a shop (for the first time in MONTHS) couldn’t do much, and ended up with a really bad headache (could this be a vestibular migraine? I’ve never suffered with headaches before). It’s just so difficult to imagine life returning to normal and I was wondering if anybody else suffered with constant dizziness as well as attacks? And if so, did you ever figure out how to get rid of it? It’s bringing me down so much.

All the best,

Christina

    Hi Christina,

This is a horrible disease and I have been checked several times to make sure that it is Menieres.  I get headaches a lot, balance issues are horrible, vertigo is sickening.  And A lot of Dr will diagnose you when they can’t figut out where it is coming from.  Make sure you see a Dr who knows about it. I work in a family practice and could not believe they knew nothing about it!  Floored me, I had to educated them all on it lol.  I have suffered for years.  I do 1500mg salt diet Dyazide 35mg/25mg, promethazine 25mg at night if needed, Valium 5-10 when having a severe episode.  I have had Decamethasone injections in my ear which helped for awhile.  I have also had the Sac decompression which was wonderful the first time. Gave me 3 years of my life back. 2nd one I believe would of been successful but I ended up with a CSF leak.  Going for MRI today to make sure still not leaking due to the headaches.  One thing I have found is that stress brings episodes on and allergies.  I finally was tested for allergies and placed on a regimen for them.  I just hope once I am over this hump, controlling my diet better, taking the allergy meds daily and getting on something for the stress I’ll be back somewhat normal!  The dr is hopefull that controlling my allergies is going to lessen my episodes.  Good luck to you.

Hi Christina I have been diagnosed with vestibular migraines last October because since November of 2016 I have been having similar symptoms to yours. I had to go back and forth with my Gp, because i still didn’t feel right. Eventually after a visit to the audiologist he realised what my problem could be, so he arranged for me to have an MRI scan to rule out more serious things and then sent me to see an ENT specialist who diagnosed me after a series of tests. The ENT said that the difference between Ménières and Vestibular migraines is that Ménières is degenerative, só eventually you’ll lose your hearing in the affected ear, and my hearing was normal every time . So if you haven’t seen both an audiologist or an ENT specialist then I recommend you do that. Further I take Betahistine 16mg 3x a day and that helps with symptoms of vertigo and dizziness and tinnitus, for migraines I take Amytriptalin 10mg 1-3pills before going to bed. Finally the ENT gave me a whole list of things (foods, drinks, lifestyle, hormonal and environmental) to exclude from my life which are supposed to help, I did notice a difference. Hope this help, keep strong I know how isolating this disease can make you feel.

What are some of the things he told you to avoid just curious other than salt caffeine and chocolate or sugar anything else?

Hi Yolanda, thank you for taking the time to reply to me. So they avoided the menieres diagnosis purely because your hearing was okay? Currently my hearing is okay but they told me that one can still have Menieres and have 100% hearing for a number of months/years before it begins to decline. Did you ever have vertigo attacks? Can I also ask what hormonal things you were told to do/avoid? Thank you x

      Christina
