menopausal symptoms at 58

Hi, I'm 58 and started the menopause at 50 when my periods stopped. At first I relieved because I didn't have PMT or periods anymore but now at my age I'm suffering from severe anxiety, depression, insomnia, mood swings far worse than ever before. I have suffered from these symptoms for years and take medication for them but everything seems just awful. Today also I woke with a start at 4.30am feeling light headed, dizzy. I'm really scared and was wondering if I should still have these symptoms at my age and could they be related to the menopause?

    Hi Lucas,

I'm a 59 years old male. I must admit though that my bipolar illness has worsened with age.

I too suffer from severe insomnia and hypo-mania. A talk with your psychiatrist about a change in dosage of your medications may be in order. What worked for you before may be something that your body has become resistant to. You may even have to try a different medication cocktail. Trust and keep the lines of communication open with your psychiatrist even if you haven't seen them for a long time.

I am 58 and going through what you are, I started later about age 55 no symptoms until last April and wow has hit me strong, now I am having migraines on top of it all.  I can't take the HRT because of side affects.. I am trying essential oils they help but these headaches and being dizzy are the WORST ever.  I feel for you.  I would love to keep in contact with you and compare different ideas if you are open to it. Blessings, Pamela

hi you are not alone.my periods stopped at 42..i never had any real issues.maybe because i was young..i have noticed since i hit 50 i seem to be dealing with some flushes.not to intense.anxiety especially health and insomnia..i would sleep alternate nights at one point.took until last summer to resolve itself..i still get nights were i sleep 3hrs..its like i am.on constant alert.cant take hrt but i do know post meno is for the rest of our lifes..my dr actually was very honest that for some women symptoms can.last for years and its very misleading to say otherwise...symptoms can subside then re emerge mths/yrs later especially if we still have our womb..take it really easy on yourself..ive learnt not to fear it so.much but just accept my body has changed and i will feel different ♥️♥️really look after yourself to.i started putting myself first and its not selfish.its being kind xxx

    Good afternoon all

I have been struggling with the menopause for past 2 years.

My Symptoms have been feeling suicidal, break down and cry at various times of day.

sleep well don't get much of that, constantly tired, my memory is terrible , keep asking thing,s twice as i forget the first time. My sex life is none existent. Been very Depressed , constantly questioning about my life with Partner if he love,s me.

I have been on HRT for some year,s as i had a Hysterectomy at the age of 32, so have been pre menopause on and off since then.

I eat pretty Healthy, I do have other under lining issues.

I have to lovely girls age 22/23 but i can,t speak to them as they are to young to understand.

One of the hardest thing,s is that i have had to deal with this alone.

I am hopping that i will make some friends through this and advice and to see how other people cope with this, i can only hope this does not go on for ever but you never know.

Thank you for reading my storey.

    Hi

Iam three years post menopause and thought peri was hell little did i know it would get worse. I am like yoi having dizziness vertigo nausea anxiety hot flushes to the point of wanting to throw up. I am also waking in the night with hot sweats palpitations and room spinning or i feel like i am nit sure which one.

I feel like my head is full of cotton wool and i cannot focus. Yes i have been through this before in my ten years of peri but i secretly hoped it would get better post meno. Currently waiting for an EnT referal for the dizziness and off balance feeling. So ofcourse my health anxiety kicks in and tells me i have a brain tumour. Wen does this end?

I have just moved house and my last child of which i have five has left home also so just me and my husband now. I can appreciate this probably hasnt helped my symptoms but im so tired and drained from years of this.

Doctor has prescribed Hrt but im reluctant

Hi Michelle97919 I have those dizziness/vertigo and almost all the symptoms you mention and they are super scary, I did go for MRI scan on my brain, they did not find anything. I have started HRT on Mar 13th ( 0.3 lowest dose) It made a difference my dizziness went away and I felt good not great but good. Other symptoms persisted tho - including night sweats and health anxiety so I have increased my dose as of yesterday to 1.25 I will let you know how things go. Fingers crossed !!

PS: HRT is still my saving grace I was a total mess I will take feeling good over feeling that bad everyday of the week

thank you so much for your reply

I am a mess right now dont even want to get out of bed. I have been given a patch of 50 micrograms of eostrogen estradot and utrogestan 100mg in tablet form. I have tead reviews and they are mixed i am terrified it will make me even worse than i am.

I have had the presccription for ages. Do you think i should try it?

Thanks again for reaching out x

well my symptoms have raised their ugly heads again - dizzy and anxious feel like I am going to fall apart. it makes me question every bit of my life - am I doing everything I can ? I live in a remote community and we do not have access to any "menopause" specialists I feel like I am on my own trying to figure this all out thank god for people on this site like you.

Michelle, I also started Vitamin B12 at the same time as my HRT but haven't taken it for 2 days - I am thinking that it really helped with my dizziness - i am going back on it today just to see - if it makes it go away again I will let you know but it cant hurt to try it !

      Hi Corinne

      How are you

I am still constantly lightheaded and full of anxiety because of it. I moved house four weeks ago and i feel like its made my symptoms worse if that is at all possible.

My husband keeps telling me to get the Hrt prescription and try it but i just dont know what to do. x
