Metoprolol. Tapering off. Side effects. Horrible drug!

Metoprolol has been the worst medication I've ever been on. After a year of not knowing what was making me sick we found out it's this poison. I have never suffered so much and now after so much I found out it was this medication which I was given for hypertension. I've always ran but high and I believe I in fact have white coast hypertension I have MS so it's hard to know what's wha. Unclearly this drug ruined my life. I was 5"8 145lbs after losing a lot of weight from the pesky steroids I was given initially for MS then this drug in one year (despite healthy eating) packed on 30lbs and gave me a list of horrific side effects to include swelling chest pressure burning in arms sleep disturbances extreme dizziness depression I never thought possible. I'm slowly tapering off as no one warns you how risky stopping this drug is. Into week 2 of taper and it's hard

I have a tough time with MS but was never this sick

Also doctors hand this crap out like nothing despite FDA warnings. Anyone else go through this? I can't wait to be rid of this poison in me. My anxiety is off the charts

I can't believe I agreed to take this Med. I trusted my doctor. Never again. Have been to ER very sick 3 times. Even ER doc said it's not a good Med to treat HTN of any kind

Thank you for your time

I was only on it for 12 days altogether and its been almost four months and im still dealing with the withdrawals. it is an extremely dangerous drug. i have severe migraines daily after coming off this. Ive never had a migraine in my life. i still also have a lot of anxiety which will not go away. Be careful coming off of it. Wean off it very slowly.

Do you feel like you feel your heart beat more on the medicine? That causes some of my anxiety. Like before the med if my heart rate was high, I wouldn't feel it as much. On the med it's very noticeable if your heart rate starts to increase, it sort of pounds or is muffled. I think this makes it worse for me.

Metoprolol has wrecked me as well. I'm a migraine sufferer and was first put on Sandomigran as a preventer. I was only on it for 5 days and had horrible side effects that included nausea, lightedness and dizzyness (particularly when driving). It seemed like there was a constant pressure throbbing in the back of my head which I had never experienced before.

GP switched me over to Metoprolol. For 2 weeks I was only had 25mg at night. At first my side effects that I had from taking Sandomigran subsided. But by the end of the 2nd week, it slowly crept back again. The 3rd week GP got me to take another 25mg in the morning (so 25mg morning and night). The nausea came back with a vengeance, as well as giving me bad blurred vision.

It was at this point i had enough and asked the GP to stop taking this drug. These side effects were taking over my life in the worst way. So now I am currently one week into weaning off Metoprolol and not getting any better. The blurred vision is really affecting my everyday life, it's almost as if I have lost my peripheral vision as everything is so blurry. I can barely read (I have to squint to make out words) and it's making driving hazardous as my depth perception is off. I can't drive very far or be on public transport for too long before my nausea kicks in.

I was hoping these beta blockers will help overcome my migraine issues but it has just made everything worse. It's scary reading on here about people who have gone over a year since weaning off and are still dealing with side effects. I hope this isn't what I am in for.

OMG where do I start. I'm taking metoprolol and i feel like I'm dying here. Ive been having palpitations and panic attacks. I also have really bad insomnia from this drug. I was taking 25mg but im trying to get off this drug. so I'm at a quarter of the pill and I just take that and im up for 2days. I cant sleep. it's tormentful. I feel idk if I'm ever getting off this medication alive. has anyone felt like this? can I make it off this drug alive. i feel like I'm loosing my mind. a doctor gave this drug cause my heart would race. but i can't feel like this anymore.

I was prescribed the Tartrate version of Metoprolol in 2020. I have 25mg that I take a half twice a day. The pandemic made my occasional anxiety more frequent. I also am going through perimenopause so my hormones are all over. Doctors & a nurse have all ignored me about how different my period is & none have sent me for lab work to check my hormones. It's just been them insisting I take this pill.

I've seen a cardiologist who ran a few tests which shows my heart is fine. Even told me to take care of it. Yet, I got the talk to your primary about getting off the pill.

I've had issues with this. From chest pain to more migraines than my once monthly one & increased anxiety at times. I've been told that I can wean down to once a day but I want off of this completely. I don't want problems that I don't have because I took this beta blocker.

So I have taken matters into my hands. It's only been a few days & so far it's not too bad. It did take a little longer to fall asleep & I do feel a little anxious but I'm not stopping.

I just hope I can do this.

I hope things are still going ok for you. Some people can come off of the BB without issues. And then some have problems. I went through hell after stopping. Hopefully you wont have a hard time.

Hi there, how are you coming along?

I hope you have been able to come off fine and have not experienced too bad a time

I started taking Metoprolol succinate 25mg about a month ago. since I've experienced chest pain/discomfort, blurred vision, ear issues, anxiety, cold extremities. dizziness, no appetite, headaches, and heart palpitations. I've spoken to people who swear by the medicine. it did me bad. I spoke to my CRNP today and was advised to stop taking immediately. I ask would it harm me and was told the dose was to small to do anything..... I can't wait to feel better. 🙏🏾

Be careful coming off this crap. i was only on it for 12 days total back in december and I still have extreme migraines and palpitations from it. metoprolol ruined my life but i think in another 6 months i should be better. Ive had migraines every single day since coming off this poison. Before going on it I never had a migraine in my life. it completely damaged my nervous system to the point where i have tremors in my arms and hands now. My vision used to be 20-20. Now ive developed an astigmatism from this drug. They should never prescribe this. Its incredible what it can do to someone who doesnt need it.
